Chiefs plan to play Charles, Moeaki, Berry in preseason opener

Chiefs Camp Football AP

Any improvement the Chiefs make this year is directly tied to the kind of season quarterback Matt Cassel has.

The good news for Cassel is two of his main weapons will be back on the field with him this week.

According to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star, running back Jamaal Charles and tight end Tony Moeaki, along with safety Eric Berry are going to play Friday against Arizona.

Coach Romeo Crennel said they three recovering stars would practice against Cardinals tomorrow as well.

Charles and Moeaki were given Saturday off to give them ample chances to recover.

Friday’s game will be a big step for Charles, his first game action since tearing his ACL early last season. The mental aspect of the game is often as big a hurdle as the physical, so getting one under his belt should help.

When any of them get back up and jog onto the field after being hit low, I will breathe a monumental sigh of relief.

I love the way all 3 play and it’s a real shame they play for a franchise that has no chance to ever be real contenders brother.

    Can’t wait for this season!

Last season the Chiefs came within an amazing 2 blocked field goals game by Richard Seymour of winning the AFC West-they had the tiebreakers in their favor.

They came that close despite all the injuries & a cornball nut of a head coach named Todd Haley doing his level best to throw the season with his insane play calling & starting Tyler Palko at QB after Matt Cassel went down.

Add these things to the benefits of a 4th place schedule, plus the fact new Head Coach Romeo Crennel has a very good track record against Peyton Manning, & there is every reason to be optimistic in KC!

Could have, sure. Would have? Just speculation. If the Raiders or Chargers had played decent defense last season either one of them could have won it.

The Chiefs should win the division this year. They wont advance in the playoffs unless they can pull games out by running the ball well and playing great D. Their QB doesnt bring much to the table.

If the Chargers, Raiders or Broncos get in the playoffs I feel they have more potential to surprise, maybe get lucky, and advance to some degree because they have better QBs that can move the ball if the ground game isnt quite there BUT the overall best roster in that division is KC. Its just that their lacking at the most important position on the field and its tough to advance far with a average to below average QB.
