Report: Owens agrees to deal with Seahawks

Getty Images

Congratulations, Seahawks fans.  Or, as the case may be, condolences.

The appropriate “C” word won’t be known for a while.  For now, what is known is that receiver Terrell Owens has agreed to terms with Seattle, according to Jay Glazer of FOX.

Per Glazer, it’s a one-year deal.

Owens spent the 2011 season out of the NFL, after tearing an ACL during the lockout.  Earlier this year, he played for the Allen Wrangler of the Indoor Football League, leaving as he often seems to do in a haze of controversy.

Barring a deal with Golden Tate, who wears No. 81, the only number currently available for Owens is 84.

Owens returns to the NFC West, where his career started with the 49ers.  He also has played for the Eagles, Cowboys, Bill, and Bengals.

  1. I am Bills fan and he was nothing but a class act the entire time he was with the Bills, and that was with Trent Edwards throwing him the ball for part of the year. If ever there was a reason to throw a QB under the bus he had it and he didn’t do it.

  2. if they managed to get some sort of mandatory therapy written they potentially got a steal. TO works hard and will be in amazing shape. Seattle is a smaller market so that could work out really well for them.

  3. This is bittersweet. I am glad Terrell Owens is back in the NFL but I am sad it is not with the Texans. Now I guess everyone will continue to compare him and Randy Moss.

  4. I think this is a bad decision. He only thinks of himself. He has never been a team player.

  5. This is further evidence that Pete Carroll, although a good guy…is not a good NFL coach. How long will he rob Paul Allen of all his Microsoft money before he “Reboots” Pete to the curb?
T.O. can still play, but has poisoned EVERY locker room he has been in! Ask Garcia, McNab, Romo. Heck if the freaking Bengals think he is tooo much trouble, you might want to think again lol.

  6. What happens when you have TO, the prince of all divas, at one wide out and Braylon “hands of stone’ Edwards (the princess of divas) at the other?

Its simple math folks, BE + TO = BO!

  7. Hey 49ers fans, hope you enjoy watching my SEAHAWKS in the playoffs while your team is out this year.

  8. Ahhhh…desperation by old Pete, more proof he’s toast in the NFL. What move are you going to make next after Harbaugh makes you his bitch again

  9. Class Act?? T.O. a class act?? Yeah OK……he was beyond a head case for the Eagles. Throwing the other players under the bus all the time. I feel for Seattle, he’s not worth it for any money, especially not with that horrible classless attitude. Look at the incident from what Arena Football?? Classless Football Athlete who thinks he’s better than everyone else.

  10. I can’t believe anybody wants a reason not to sign a shoe in 1st ballot hof’er on the cheap! Just in case anyone has forgotten his last season in the nfl he led his team in receptions and had 980 yards in 12 games!!! Numbers don’t lie, people do!!

  11. Congratulations to one of the most under appreciated characters in the NFL!

If people got to know who he truly is they’ll know that he’s not that bad of a guy!!!

Get some TD’s this year Terrell!!!

  12. when TO played for cincinnati he was nothing but a class act. i just wish he would of stayed here in cincinnati. good luck TO show them all just how good you are

  13. Unbelievable: Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, and Chad Johnson are all on NFL rosters heading into the 2012 season.

  14. That’s my quarterback… sniff… sniff…and he’s throwing the ball to his BFF, the tight end.
    Coach, make ’em stop!

Better make a child support payment, Terrell.

  15. And congratulations Bengals fans. You’ll no longer be needlessly linked to the next “TO (insert something obnoxious) again” story.

  16. his time spent in Buffalo was …. fun. i wouldn’t want him back, dropped too many for me, but he was a decent WR.

Good Luck TO, glad your back.

  17. Good to see T.O. getting another shot.

I’m no Seahawks fan, but I wish to see him do well.

  18. This the last go-around for T.O. He has burned innumerable bridges behind him. I therefore wish him the greatest success in this latest endeavor. That is, until he plays my Eagles.

  19. T.O. just likes to play football and have fun. When he was younger his problem was he just didnt know when the right time was to shut up. Now that he is older, and he has matured (some), i think he will be a decent teammate. Im glad he is getting a chance. Good luck T.O.!

  20. dkphilly – Owens played for the Eaglets 7 years ago – let it go. As you saw, and more evident now, McNabb was no perfect teammate either. At least TO was in shape and helped your team get in the Super Bowl, defying odds after having a broken leg a few weeks before the game – then had a great game. Owens is a hardworker, has learned his lesson, needs work/money, and will continue to be a good teammate like in Cincy and Buffalo (as well as Dallas, according to most). He will have a very solid year.

  21. Let’s see you got…

    Seattle, a team at a fork-in-the-road…

    A weak personality quarterback…

    Terror Owens…

Wonder how this is gonna turn out?!?

No matter how many numbers you put behind it, it’s still the same plot – it’s

Friday the 13th all over again!

  22. As previously noted, the NFC West will be interesting this season, if for only the chance to see Moss as a Niner and Owens as a ‘Hawk. My money is on Randy.

  23. If this was 3 years ago i would be disappointed, but T.O. has proven he can keep his cool in his last 2 stops… this is a good signing for this team (fingers crossed)

Hey 49ers fans, hope you enjoy watching my SEAHAWKS in the playoffs while your team is out this year.
    ————————

    49ers=Five Super Bowl Championships

    Seahags= Zero Lombardi’s

Btw $h/t for brains, your team went 7-9 last season while the Niners went 13-3.

  25. I like TO. Hell, I bought his jersey the day after he signed with the Bengals. I thought he had a great season for my Bengals statistically, but he completely had Carson Palmer whipped in making him force the ball to him too many times. It wasn’t the main reason their 2010 season sucked, but I think it had a lot to do with it.

  26. Ahahahahaha gonna laugh my ass off the first time T.O. goes over the middle and gets crushed. I like T.O. but lets face it he never was one to go over the middle and it only takes one good hit to get that alligator to start dropping Passes.

Don’t expect a whole lot from him against the 9ers Seahawk fans cause you all know how physical this Defense is. 😀

  27. as a Bengals fan I loved T.O. & had no issues with him in the year he played with us. In fact I think a lot of the issues are overblown. I hope he does well in Seattle.

  28. This might be big enough for ESPN to stop talking about Tebow for five minutes.

    Wait…who am I kidding?

  29. Big thanks to Pete for bringing him back into the fold. Now they just need an QB. Is Jeff George still available?

  30. Congrats, yes TO has his issues but he’s really not a bad dude, we all have faults and deserve chances. I hope he takes full advantage of this one. Good Luck TO.

    A Giants Fan.

  31. Wow. I don’t care either way but I do find it interesting how many fans he has all of a sudden when until now there’s been nothing but hate for the guy. I was in the Astrodome when he broke a Jeff Brohm (because S. Young was knocked out early in the game w/a concussion) pass down the sideline to beat the Oilers late in the game and thought “Wow! This guy could be somebody”. Interesting how that turned out.

  32. So between T.O. and Moss, how many teams have they combined to play for? What’s the NFL record for number of teams a WR has played for?

  33. It’s more of the “leave no stone unturned” philosophy, but what this *really* says is that Carroll and Schneider believe that their roster is now strong enough to take on a potentially disruptive character like T.O.

That wasn’t true last year or the year before. But now they have the kind of locker room that can deal with this.

Even if it doesn’t work out, fans of the Seahawks should recognize this for the milestone that it is.

  34. Bengals fan here. To be honest, I’m surprised nobody picked him up last year. The guy had a solid year for the Bengals. He was actually pretty much the only receiver that did in that sorry excuse of a season that the Bengals had. I think he’s still got some life left in him if he keeps his mouth shut and just plays the game.

  35. T.O. will run his mouth, piss off team-mates and management….

Seattle will not make the playoffs, they still need too much….Dallas and Carolina will take the two NFC wild cards…

Pete Carroll will be coaching college football again in three-four years….

    Bank it

  36. This is probably the first time in Owens’ life that someone chose him over Donovan McNabb.

    🙂

  37. Disclaimer: Niners fan.

Correct me if I am wrong but hasn’t every QB who has thrown to him had career years?

I wish the best for him, hopefully he can manage his money better and provide entertainment for us instead of drama.

  38. TO isn’t going to do any damage to Seattle just like Moss wont do any to the niners. they’re at the final stop of their careers so anymore drama would be pointless this is both of their last shots at any success in the NFL

  39. I’m very happy for him, I hope he really makes the most of this season so he can try for a few more years. The guy is in great shape for his age and clearly he can still play football.

  40. I’m not going to hate on a man trying to keep it together for one last taste of glory and some financial relief.

  41. Great pickup for the Seattle Seahawks he is a head case but what you get between the lines is an in-shape, sure handed possession wide receiver. Despite the back stories in the press T.O. is a consummate professional between the lines and takes tremendous pride in his craft especially in the weight/training rooms. He is up in age but again he’s a beast in the training room making sure to take the upmost care of his body. More importantly especially with new QB’s, he’s a good route runner and extremely intelligent on the field which will serve Seattle well. Again great pickup for this team.

The only bad thing with him is his mouth and the press knows he is an easy storyline because of the dumb things that come out of it and nothing sells like T.O, and controversy. Seattle isn’t exactly a major media market (read- Ed Werder won’t be lurking behind every corner) and quite frankly a place where players disappear. This all works in favor of Seattle and T.O., so I would say the odds of this looking like a steal come December maybe into January are pretty high.

  42. funny how when the niners sign Moss , all the niners fan said it was the best thing ever. Now that the seahawks have signed TO, it is the worse thing ever… Both of these guys have almost identical stats in total yards, td’s etc…..but TO has never quit on a team, as moss did with the raiders. Funny also how niner fans talk about last year….time will tell but niners have a first place schedule this year…i say more like 10-6 atop the nfc worse, with an early exit in week one of the playoffs vs the wildcard lions

  43. And people say Peyton Manning is old and that he can’t play at a high level, T.O. is 38 and watching him workout, he still has it. If he can keep his ego in check and can stay healthy, this could be a hugh steal for the seahawks.

  44. Good luck TO… You have to give him credit, he never gives up on the field… never takes a play off… and he’s always in shape.

Now he has T Jack & MAYBE Flynn……Never be like it was

  46. Pete Carroll knows how to get the most out of a player. Look at Mike Williams. Now imagine a turn around like that with someone that has owen’s skill set! And he’s gotta com-PETE for a spot out of the 53 available when the season starts anyways. Curious if Tate is willing to give up the 81 though.

Bloody hell what are you talking about man? You must’ve been in a cave. TO made his original claim to fame beating defensive backs senseless through the middle smashing through failed tackle after failed tackle. Now with that said I do find hawks fans extremely hypocritical after all the Edwards and Moss smack talk to turn around and rejoice in the Edwards and Owens signings there. Same situation, talented diva receivers looking for redemption

  48. Lol sill hawks fans!!! You guys arent makin the playoffs. Im a vikes fan and i know the 9ers are way more staked with tallent. You have no recievers. Rice? Lol there is a reason why we didnt sign him. He was a one year wonder. Edwards? Lol ok well once he catches a ball let me know. Tate? Never been good. T.O.? Washed up. Matt flynn wont do much this year. Your D isnt even that talented lol. You guys will go 5 – 11 at best. I still think its funny how your organization has tried for years to get the vikes back for stealin hutch but always ends in an epic fail first with burleson then with rice lol gotta love that

  49. I also find it amusing that TO will be the #5WR. Make absolutely no mistake Hawks… Owens is and will be your #1 wideout just as most likely Moss will be ours. Not a great sign for the future, but it is what it is

  50. starvingardens says: Aug 6, 2012 10:02 PM

Ok everyone… Which 81 is gonna be better this season? Owens or Moss?
    ________________________________________

Moss is wearing 84 as he did most of his career. In fact as of right now the only # available in Seattle is #84 as was reported earlier

  51. I’m happy to hear T.O. has finally found a landing spot, I just wish it was with a team that offered him a possible chance at getting a ring. If it took him this long to find a home at 38… just think of what he’ll be up against when he’s 39.

  52. TO isn’t an A-hole anymore, but he’s also not that great of a player anymore. I hope he does well and makes enough money to retire. I always thought he was a charming, and hilarious A-hole. Of course he was never on any of my teams

  53. I hope and pray Terrell Owens does well for the Seahawks. Are locker rooms of grown men so distracted by one player that the entire team is affected? I hope the team does well with T.O. On the team and he proves all the detractors that they were wrong about him. He is in excellent shape, doesn’t party and has never got arrested. He lives to play on Sundays and be on that stage…that is why I believe he will do well….Go go T.O. !

  54. T.O will keep his mouth shut the entire year….why you ask? Because he knows this is his last chance…and his back is against the wall as his legacy is on the line…for how he will be remembered …is all on what he does now…and he knows it…

  55. I know a lot of people see Carroll and TO uniting as a train wreck in the making, but, however old TO is or however many steps he’s lost, he seemed to behave in Buffalo and can probably still catch the ball better than plenty of NFL WRs.

Don’t get me wrong, as a 49er I’m rooting for disaster, but I just don’t see it.

  56. You have to wonder how much BETTER T.O. and Randy Moss could have been if they weren’t such headcases off the field. Definitely some of the best athletes of their times, but I wonder how history will judge them.

  57. P.S. As a Lions fan it makes me REALLY appreciate Calvin Johnson and his humble, quiet attitude when you compare him to T.O, Moss, Ochocinco, and Brandon Marshall.

  58. Fact is he had an injury last year or he would have played. both the niners and hawks could release TO or moss with minor hits against the cap OR it could be a real steal for both teams if these guys work out. BMW had a great year in 2010 for seattle at the league minimum. BMW got hurt last year and now ges gone but he was a big deal for the hawks. YA NEVER KNOW, T.O. could be big

  59. IF T.O. makes it to week 7 it will mark his first return to San Francisco since his depature from the 49ers..

  60. The revolving door in Seattle is visible to everyone on the team. Several have responded positively, and the team is improving. Hard to see the downside to giving someone a chance.

  61. I guess this is what happens when your #2 is in traction (Rice) and your #3 can’t catch a cold (Edwards).

    Was Roy Williams unavailable?

  62. sweetcheekssourdough says:Aug 6, 2012 10:21 PM

Most 49er still love this guy. We were sad to see him go, he’s still talented and fun to watch. Read the comments.

  63. Maybe Pete Carroll is an undercover Oncologist with a cure for locker room cancer!

    Bring on the TeamOtherapy

  64. I think it’s crazy that the cowboys play him for the first time since cutting him this year. Week 2!

  65. People seem to forget that Owens and Romo had more TD connections than any other QB-WR tandem while Owens was in Dallas. Another thing people like to forget is that he was 5th in the league in receiving with the Bengals before he got hurt and was out for the rest of the season. Another thing people hate to be reminded of is his performance in the Super Bowl with the Eagles. First of all, he was still injured and had no business playing, but he went out there and caught 9 passes for 122 yards in the biggest game of his life. Owens just produces and it’s a great pickup for Seattle. He will produce again, guaranteed

  66. @angrylionsfan

Yeah, you have a well behaved Calvin Johnson, but the rest of your team…

  67. bobward2770 says: T.O. can still play, but has poisoned EVERY locker room he has been in! Ask Garcia, McNab, Romo. Heck if the freaking Bengals think he is too much trouble, you might want to think again lol.

Not EVERY locker room. When he was with Buffalo he was all class, not one blowout, no blaming. As a matter of fact, Terrell mentored, supported his teammates and did a lot of charity work for the community of Buffalo. Maybe Owens realized he was making too many enemies, maybe he respected Ralph Wilson too much to step out of line. Whatever the reason, he was all class, and he would be welcomed back to Buffalo any day. Good Luck T.O.-From #BillsMafia

  68. Considering he’s fighting for a 5th receiver job, I think it’ll take only 4 games before he announces he’s overplaying his contract again.

  69. The guy truly has been a clown, but I’m rooting for him. It’s a story lots of people can get behind…someone down on their luck after success, rises yet again.

His conditioning and shape never was an issue…even after his injury. He’s a freak. Whether he can bottle the nonsense and stop dropping more passes than he should, is another story.

Good for him though…and his eight baby-mommas.

  70. If the Seahags are that desperate for recievers they should call the Packers and make an offer for Gurley and Borell, both fine young recievers who can be the Hags future for years to come, the Pack has too many veterans for them to make the cut and they will be in huge demand by other teams when they get cut and the Vikings will be leading the parade trying to sign them.

  71. Folks there’s a reason why no one has been knocking down his door to sign him. He’s 38 years old and has not had a history of being a model player/teammate.

  72. I expect both Randy and T.O. to have good seasons. They both know this is probably their last and only chance to play again in the NFL, so they will probably be on their best behavior. Their contracts are small and incentive-laden, so the teams don’t have much to lose if they act out. If they both hit all the incentives in their contracts, let’s face it, their teams will look like geniuses and they will win a clutch of games. If they don’t, the teams will have lost nothing. This is a no-lose situation for the teams.
