When last we left the Browns, running back Trent Richardson, he was riding a stationary bike with a rubber sleeve on his left leg instead of practicing and we were waiting for coach Pat Shurmur to update his condition.

Shurmur has done just that. Richardson has a sore left knee and Shurmur said that there is a chance he won’t play in Friday’s preseason opener against the Lions. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Shurmur also said that Richardson’s knee will be evaluated again later on Tuesday.

It’s the same knee that Richardson had surgically repaired during the offseason, something that makes the soreness rise a bit more of a worry than it would be without that kind of history. Richardson has worn the sleeve on his leg at other points since the surgery, but this is the first time that there’s been any sign that the knee was limiting him on the field.

We’d expect to hear more about Richardson’s status over the next couple of day, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Richardson’s game debut was delayed as the team ensures the third overall pick is in the best possible condition before facing any hostile opposition.
