That said, what I saw (after watching several times) was DRC launch, lead with the shoulder, and hit Leftwich mostly in the shoulder (with some incidental helmet contact). At the time, Leftwich was out of the pocket and running around near the line. He looked as if there was a good possibility he was about to pull it down and run.

The bottom line is that DRC has no history of this kind of hit, and while it rightly drew a flag, I’m not sure about a fine (probably should be..around 5K). Other than that, I think it’s really blown out of proportion.

I basically agree with you. If it had been Harrison or Woodley hitting Vick or Edwards with the same method that Rodgers-Cromartie used in hitting Leftwich, Eagles fans would be flipping out and acting like it was the worst thing that ever happened — that said, I still agree with you.

As a Steelers fan, I don’t think it was *that* egregious or flagrant on Rodgers-Cromartie’s part — it was more a lack of discipline or inattention. Whether you agree with it or not, though, these guys should know that they’re going to get called for this 99 times out of a 100 right now, given all the attention going to brain trauma and the penalties/fines that have been levied recently. You might not like it, but it is what it is.

As an Eagles fan I agree that the Steelers are the best team in PA, but I’m certainly not mad about it. As for the hit, what you seem to be forgetting is that Harrison is a repeat offender which is why the penalties are bigger for him. Maybe the 4th or 5th time DRC does this he’ll get what Harrison gets. Nuff said.

Any hit on a WR over the middle is 10x worse because they can’t defend themselves. Leftwich could have tucked the ball, lowered his shoulder, and swatted DRC off like a gnat. I guess Ronnie Lott will be removed from the Hall of Fame soon because of concussion lawsuits… this game is soft.

It is completely irrelevant what he “lead with”. It doesn’t have to be helmet to helmet. Number 1- as soon as his feet leave the ground, it’s a penalty. Number 2- his shoulder made clear contact with the QBs head.

This was not a difficult call.

This was in no way a head shot. Went back to the film & replayed that hit over and over (we have that technology folks).
Now, i am no scumbag. I was legitamitly trying to see if this punk was dumb enough to deliver a hit like that.

DRC makes contact with the top of his numbers, which is remarkable close to the helmet. When he hit, Byrons entire helmet flexed forward as his chest crumpled. if this was a head shot, that helmet would have been rocked back back wards. or even side to side…

Throw the flag, fine him, suspend him. But dont call that a blatant shot to the head.. This was the best example of “LAUNCHING” and what not to do.
