    I didn’t even know there were even 17,000 browns fans out there.

    The 1972 Dolphins are an albatross hanging over this franchise. I have many things to say about this.

    1. The 1973 team was better.

    2. Nobody born after 1967 (probably more than half the of the fanbase) was even old enough to remember/appreciate anything about that season.

    3. Every single year the Dolphins wheel these guys out, and every single year they remind us that (other than having Dan Marino for 17 years) nothing good has happened to this franchise in FORTY years. Hell, the Killer B’s was THIRTY years ago (can you believe that?)

    4. Every year we have to listen to the nation yell and scream that teams x, y, and z were all better than the 72 Dolphins; and then we feel some sort of obligation to argue on the 72 teams behalf even though none of us were there for it, and none of us enjoyed it.

    5. Every year it’s like an indictment on US whenever a team starts better than 6-0. “Can they go undefeated” becomes “Can they top the 1972 Dolphins”. And then, for no reason whatsoever, we’re the “target”in a championship chase that we have nothing to do with now and nothing to do with then.

    6. Every year we have to deal with all the BS from national media about how obnoxious the 72 dudes are (even though it’s really only one guy), every time a team goes 6-0 or better.

    7. We all would be better off if another team goes undefeated. Instead of an honor, it’s become a stigma.

    8. 1972 was a long time ago.

    @1972wasalongtimeago:

    I agree with everything you quite eloquently articulated, including how the ’73 team was clearly superior to the ’72 team. It was. Dude, you nailed it everywhere. I love to see someone on top of their game like you.

    The crazy thing is a lot of people, including a few ex-Dolphins, don’t seem to grasp it as well as you do. For them, it’s some infantile linear formula of “perfect record equals best team ever.” Morons.

    Good job man – much respect.

    You got it, brother — nice to see you weigh in on a topic and boldly express rarely held views.

    Just because you’re going against the grain does NOT mean you’re wrong. Love your takes on this issue, and good luck to your Dolphins.
