Vick exits with hand injury

Michael Vick AP

During 30 minutes or so when the switch on the Pittsburgh CBS affiliate had been flipped by the good folks at Time Warner from Steelers-Eagles to infomercials, I missed a fairly important play.

Eagles quarterback Mike Vick, who has vowed to do everything he can to stay healthy this season, banged his throwing hand off a helmet after throwing a pass early in the second quarter.

Vick left the game at that point, capping a pair of three-and-out drives.

UPDATE 9:26 p.m. ET:  The Eagles have announced that X-rays on Vick’s left thumb were negative.

So it is funny if Vick gets hurt but if it was your teams QB it would be a tragic ?Injuries are a serious thing in the NFL and should not be anything to laugh at.

  46. pftstory says: Aug 9, 2012 10:13 PM

X-rays negative true…but nothing to see? Not true. The guy bangs his hand on helmets often. So negative this time, but next time will come.

As for the guy getting on the Eagles for not having a reliable backup….. More teams don’t even have a reliable starter, than teams that have a reliable backup.

  47. rcali says: Aug 9, 2012 10:18 PM

We love Vick here in Atlanta. And they never show Eagles games, but its so ridiculous that every time we see news about Vick or the Eagles it’s that he’s hurt.

  52. yahmule says: Aug 9, 2012 11:09 PM

Vick and his snivelling apologists are losers.

  53. bluebongzilla says: Aug 9, 2012 11:14 PM

  54. gammynomnom says: Aug 9, 2012 11:54 PM

negative means nothing broken. Still gonna swell up like a mofo and everybody knows..Vick aint playing hurt.

  55. fan73 says: Aug 9, 2012 11:58 PM

Ive never seen anyone more injury prone than Vick…eagles will never be contenders with him as RB..errrr QB…..hes just not a winner….hes a great athlete but he will always be inconsistent or injured and as soon as the eagles realize it then the sooner they can move on and try to find a QB that will make em a true contender again….

  59. dvdman123 says: Aug 10, 2012 12:17 AM

It’s hard to believe many are calling this a Super Bowl contender. There QB can’t even stay healthy for a preseason game.

  60. natelan69 says: Aug 10, 2012 12:28 AM

I wonder if this injury will “dog” him for the whole season.

  61. mimitaroo says: Aug 10, 2012 12:30 AM

“There’s always next year Sheagles fans…GMEN: 4 Super Bowls…Sheagles: None.”

True but the Eagles own your sorry boys in blue what are they 7-1 in their last eight games against Sheli?

The Eagles will continue the ownage this year my only regret is that they won’t be able to embarrass your team in your home opener. After all the Eagles have been beating the Giants on their turf every time since 2007. Last year even Vince Young was too much for your team to handle.

Nobody is commenting on his stats before he left the game. 3 of 4 complete for 6 yards? Yes, he is a qb that I would want on a fantasy team.

  67. kingpel says: Aug 10, 2012 5:34 AM

x rays negative, but somehow I know after every fumble he is going to be flexing that left hand all year long.

Vick is a PUNK…. will be back in jail before the end of the season…..

  71. thepunkyqb says: Aug 10, 2012 7:11 AM

somewhere Donovan McNabb is starting to practice throwing passes in his back yard again…drilling them into the ground murmuring over and over to himself “this time they’ll see…this time they’ll see.”

  72. nflofficeadmin says: Aug 10, 2012 7:47 AM

Vick is listed at 6′,0″, but in real life he’s about 5’10”, he will continue to hit his hand on helmets when throwing from the pocket. He’s not big Ben, Cam, or Josh Freeman. His game is moving around and making plays. Eagles thought by keeping him in the pocket they could eliminate injuries -wrong.

Just like they were wrong that offensive line coaches make the best defensive coordinators.

  73. cleverbob says: Aug 10, 2012 8:01 AM

I don’t know what’s more ridiculous, the constantly perpetuated idea that Philadelphia sports fans are somehow worse than those elsewhere, or the blind eye to fans from other cities frothing at the mouth over any potential setbacks for our teams.

    Get a grip folks.

    ============================

Well put. The real losers are the ones making dog fighting comments after 3 years of Vick being a model citizen. The same goes for those posting “Karma” or actually rooting for an injury. As for Philly fans, we’d never do either…especially nowadays.

  75. muir6 says: Aug 10, 2012 10:13 AM

Gonna be a great season of incomplete passes and fumbles then Vick lookin at his hand. Paper Dynasty

  76. mwindle1973 says: Aug 10, 2012 10:36 AM

What do people get in domestic disputes right before posting on here or something? I assume these are all Eagles fans making this horrible comments! I hate the guy, but have some class. He did his time, he owes nothing more to society for his crimes. I don’t understand the NFL media having a love-fest when he got out of prison. But I don’t understand harassing someone endlessly either. Seems like if he hurt his hand in any way in a preseason game that they wouldn’t want him playing anymore until it was x-ray’d. Little bit of an over-reaction in the comments here.

  77. mwindle1973 says: Aug 10, 2012 11:22 AM

For all you Eagles fans who hate Vick…what did you think you were getting when you cozied up to him 2 years ago? He’s missed 33 games in 9 seasons. And he’s missed at least 1 game in 8 of those 9 seasons. Before becoming an Eagle he missed 22 games in 6 seasons or 3.67 games per season. After becoming an Eagle he missed 11 games in 3 seasons or 3.67 games per season. Uncanny isn’t it! He misses, on average, exactly as many games per season now as he always has. THat means that anyone signing him would’ve known this before doing so. Not to mention that you were signing a convicted felon that everyone would turn on if he did anything short of a SUper Bowl victory. And if you say it’s his style, your wrong. He avg’d 2.0 rushes per game in 2009, and missed 4 games. He avd’g 8.3 rushes per game in 2010 and missed 4 games again. It’s his body size. He’s only 6′ and listed as 215 lbs, but is thought to be closer to 205. Here’s another depressing stat for you…only once in his career (2010) has his passing accuracy been above 60%.
