APIf there was a margin between Titans quarterbacks Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker, it’s a lot smaller now.
Hasselbeck threw two interceptions (one of which was returned for a touchdown), while Locker played a clean game (7-of-13 passing for 80 yards).
After the game, Titans coach Mike Munchak suggested Locker could start the second preseason game.
“I don’t know if there was a big gap,” Munchak told Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean. “Obviously Jake doesn’t have the experience Matt has, so I think that gap you can never really close if you are a young quarterback. But I think overall, as the season progressed last year, we thought that Jake was coming on real strong. . . .
“So yeah, he has closed the gap and they are obviously both doing well. We are happy with both of them and at some point we’ll make a decision.”
One of Hasselbeck’s pick deflected off the hands of a receiver, so it’s not all his fault. But Locker looked more comfortable running a two-minute drive, building on the progress he’s made in camp.
“It’s not for me to decide,” Locker said. “It’s up to us to go out and play as well as we can and put our team in the best situation to win games. At the end of the day, I don’t get to make that decision, so I’m probably the wrong guy to ask.”
The guy who is the right guy to ask keeps dropping hints, so it might not be much of a surprise when he makes the switch.

I thought Locker looked pretty good. I was surprised he didn’t play some more in the 3rd quarter. Hasselbeck was a great pickup by the Titans last year, and he’s enough of a professional to know that Locker might have earned the starting job.
The sooner you let him start the sooner he develops into a QB to lead this team. Love Hass, but his time has passed, Locker is the future. Just do it.
Matt Hasselbeck, might have put up some numbers over the years and taken the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, but his heart was never really in the game. Just my opinion.
Better win Jake. My FF Team would appreciate it brother.

Dude, no offense, but huh???
If anything he could get too emotional and hyper sometimes (which I happen to like, but it’s a double edged sword for sure). NO ONE who has played as long as Hass and at as high a level as he has who came from such a longshot draft pick would play that long if he didn’t love the game (or weren’t in financial trouble which I doubt he is).
I really wish he had done better in his return to Seattle. He’ll always be one of my favorite NFL players and people ever.
Maybe its not so much Hasselbeck as it is the Seahawks. The Seahawks dont have that winning attitude they look like a bunch guys just putting in their 40, and yes I know Hasselbeck is Titan.
Jake Locker easily passed him last year. Had the opportunity to watch them lose to the Colts last year. Hasslebeck was completely incapable of moving the ball. He has no arm and could not make any throws. Locker on the other hand impressed once he got in. Things really opened up.
Hasslebeck is done and it’s a shame the Titans can’t see it. Locker could take that them to the playoffs, they aren’t that bad otherwise (and we know how much parity there is in the NFL).
Locker has a lazer he looks really good. If he can fix some of the accuracy issues he could be great.
I watched the game last night closely cause I’m a Titans fan and Locker had 2-3 catchable passes just plain dropped by his receivers. He’s a gamer and I think he should be a solid QB.
I love both QBs & I was all for starting Hass for the first 4-6 games of the season due to the early schedule. But that preseason game made me change my mind. It wasn’t that Hass played all that bad. I mean the first pick was not his fault at all & he had some dropped passes. The 2nd pick was pretty bad but all in all was basically a glorified punt, maybe even better than a punt as the guy caught it at the 6 yard line. But what makes me change my mind on this is that Locker looked ready. He made good, quick decisions & threw accurately, not to mention his passes were absolute lasers. The kid is ready to go & chomping at the bit. He needs to be declared the starter now.
