Nnamdi Asomugha carted off after practice collision

Nnamdi Asomugha, Andy Reid AP

It sounds like there was quite a scary scene at Eagles practice Monday afternoon.

Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and safety Nate Allen collided in mid-air as they tried to break up a pass intended for DeSean Jackson. As several Eagles beat writers have reported on Twitter, both men went to the ground but Asomugha took the brunt of the damage.

He was left face down on the turf for several minutes before the Eagles medical staff helped him to his feet and to a cart that took him away from practice. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports there was blood on his shirt and that Asomugha, who suffered a concussion last December, held his head in his hand as he rode off the field. Allen got to his feet under his own power and remained in practice.

There’s no update on his condition at this point. We’ll pass one along as soon as we hear it.

UPDATE: McLane reports that Asomugha has a lacerated lip and sore neck and that he is being evaluated for a concussion.

I have my fingers crossed it isn’t anything serious. Even as a Cowboys fan I hate hearing news like this.

Get well soon…..I’d hate for him to miss any of the dream team meltdown.

No problem, they can have Assante Samuel fill his spot. Oh wait….

  11. wayne1693 says: Aug 13, 2012 4:56 PM

I hope he recovers soon…but he is one of the most over-rated/over-paid corners in the NFL.

I was just starting to think that the Eagles perhaps were going to make some noise this year.

    No chance now.

A wild card spot just went up for grabs baby!!!

    WEEEEEEE!!!!!

Terrible news. Even though he’s not a Raider anymore, Nnamdi always was one of those “Once a Raider, Always a Raider” guys for me. I love rooting for him even though he plays for the Eagles. He’s a class act, Cal Berkeley grad, and an East Bay legend when it came to philanthropy.

It didn’t hurt that he is a brutal shutdown corner. Revis Island has nothing on what Nnamdi did with Oakland, and what Nnamdi was gearing up for this season with Philly.

So sad to hear about this. I hope for Eagles fans, Raiders fans, and the rest of the NFL alike, that Nnamdi is OK.

This is horrible, the only thing good about preseason is that it helps refine the Fantasy Football Draft pool. Which is why I have mine after the 3rd preseason game, so only scrubs might get hurt.

“Pierre Garcon is going to ROAST him brother. Redskins to sweep, sweep Philadelphia!”

When was the last time that happened 1997? The Redskins have inhabited the basement of the NFC East since Snyder bought the team no Colts reject is going to change that.

  23. r81ders says: Aug 13, 2012 5:20 PM

you may speak for some of raider nation but not this part..once you leave us for more money to another team there is no loayal feelings..get well but stay down he sucks..

    ————–

That’s not accurate, not from what I heard on 94.1 WIP. He supposedly got up and then fell back to his knees…that’s when he was carted off. Allen also didn’t continue to practice, but was OK.

As a Giants fan, I have no love for the Eagles. But you would rather see your team play your opponents at full strength. That way, there is no argument about “If only we had so and so…”

That being said, I hope the entire Redskins team goes on IR, starting with RG3. That may be the only way to get the troll known as “hulkhogansays” out of here, BROTHER!

  27. nfl fan says: Aug 13, 2012 5:26 PM

Must have been another Victor Cruz play.

  28. insanelomein2 says: Aug 13, 2012 5:31 PM

This will probably be the hardest that Nate Allen hits anyone this season. This is coming from a life long Eagles fan.

To the schmuck who keeps singing the praises of Pierre Garcon; no one knew of Garcon before he had Peyton Manning as a QB and no one will care about Pierre Garcon when he doesn’t have Manning as his QB.

  29. gmsalpha says: Aug 13, 2012 5:36 PM

I’m guessing he suffered a concussion. Being on the ground for several minutes? That’s more than a sore neck.

Not good. If this is his second concussion in less than a year, it does not bode well for his long-term health, and really whether you like a player or not, you have to be concerned.

  30. tsizzlehotpiss says: Aug 13, 2012 5:39 PM

Maybe you will learn to wear your mouthpiece next time, Nnamdi.

  31. gloryfromheaven says: Aug 13, 2012 5:41 PM

He got knocked out, but if he’s moving around and such then you’re just looking at a concussion. I would’nt be to worried Eagle fans he’ll be good to go by week 1….

  32. tombrookshire says: Aug 13, 2012 5:41 PM

Ooops. That at least three games. May be back for opener. Kind of a bust so far, anyway.

Just in Jonathan Vilma has been fined and banned from the NFL indefiantly for putting money in the bounty pool for Nnamdi. Gooddell is investigation Saints new Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo for alledgedly starting a new system of Pay for Injury and Performance Pool system. The system allows the saints players to bet on who will be carted off on another team by a hit from their own team.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me brother.

Nnamdi was wasted in Oakland. Too bad he didn’t play for a real team in his prime. Glad he was able to get the heck out of there before his entire career washed up on the bay with the remains of your team.

Juan Castillo was still thinking he was the offensive line coach, and forgot he is actually now the Defensive Coordinator. Sadly Nnamdi was hurt when Castillo told Nate Allen to get down field and block for the offense.

I see the classless haters (ahem, “brother!”) are in full swing. As usual, they PRAY for bad news for the Eagles, which is straight-up sad. They literally wish for injuries. Fortunately, Nnamdi will be fine and this is all blown out of proportion.

That said, this Eagles fan wishes to thank those commenters in Raiders Nation for acting, well, unlike the haters. Best of luck to you on your season!

    ———————————————————-

You can spout that line when he has 2 rings and 2 SB MVPs under his belt, like Eli Manning already has. Until then, he’s just another QB with potential (like Romo and Vick) but no hardware to show for it. Hell, at least Romo and Vick have stats to back up any claims at “best QB in the NFC East”. RG3 has nothing yet.

This is not directed at all Skins fans. There are a few classy ones out there.
