Possibly out for the preseason, Aldon Smith should be ready for Week One

The 49ers got a major scare on Friday night, when linebacker Aldon Smith exited the preseason opener with a hip injury.  While he may not make another appearance during the preseason, coach Jim Harbaugh thinks Smith will be ready to go when the games count.

He’ll be out for some time,” Harbaugh said Monday, via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.  “Maybe a week or so.  But I think he’ll be back in a week, but we’ll see.”

Smith tweeted after the Friday night contest against the Vikings that he’s OK.  But with only 13 days to go until the third preseason game and with starters rarely playing in the fourth one, chances are we won’t be seeing any more of Smith before September 9.

The Niners need Smith, who contributed 14 sacks as a rookie in 2011 despite being a backup.

The man survived a stabbing. I’m sure he’ll get over a hip bruise.

Parys and Ahmad can use the reps. Aldon already has getting to the QB down.

With all of the OTAs and offseason stuff in general in today’s NFL along with five weeks of training camp, stars don’t need to play in the preseason. It just exposes them to injury. Losing key players to a season-ending injury in the second quarter of a meaningless preseason game is a team’s worst nightmare. Glad that wasn’t the case here, but it still sucks. Remember when Sehorn blew his knee out returning a preseason kick for the Giants? He wasn’t quite the same after that.

This week 1 Niners/Packers game will be HUGE, for some reason I think Rodgers will take a lot of licks

It’s time for the niners to beat the packers and show the league they mean business. The packers has beaten the niners for too long now…this is going to be a great game for sure.

No big deal. If he’s still a little sore, then at the worst, he gets used as a pass rush specialist like he did last year and that formula worked out pretty damn well.
