Chad Johnson loses an endorsement

The Miami Dolphins and VH1 aren’t the only businesses disassociating themselves from Chad Johnson.

Johnson, who lost his job with the Dolphins and his reality TV show after his arrest last week, has now lost his endorsement with deal with the sports drink Zico, a deal that was just announced three weeks ago.

“The Zico brand is about supporting naturally powered athletes,” the company told ESPN in a statement. “We partnered with Chad Johnson because of our great respect for what he has achieved on the playing field. However, in light of recent events involving Mr. Johnson, we have decided to terminate our relationship. The values we espouse, through our employees, our customers and our brand, are central to our mission. We have taken this proactive step to demonstrate just how important those values are.”

When the deal with Zico was announced, Johnson said, “I have a refrigerator in my garage filled from top to bottom with Zico coconut water.” He should enjoy it while it lasts, because he won’t be getting any more for free.

They didn’t drop him because of the dispute, they dropped him because he got cut over it.

I would find his endorsement embarrassing even before the incident.

I wonder how much it “used” to cost to have him promote your product vs. What you could get him to do it for now? I’m sure his value was cut in half..

I think the company just got more hits because they announced the termination of 85′s endorsement.

The values we espouse…central to our mission?” You can say something like this and select Chad Johnson? Even PRIOR to his little “dust up,” he was coming off a terrible season on the field with NE, before which he had a so-so year with the Bengals. Lastly I can think of NOTHING regarding his general conduct and the way he carried himself that would compel any company to tap him for an endorsement of anything short of a whoopie cushion!!

This downward spiral isn’t going to end well. Some players are simply self-destructive. It’s sad … but there isn’t much anyone can do. They’re adults … and have to take responsibility for their actions.

This is Allen Iverson + Tiger Woods in one toxic combination.

He has Iverson’s decline in talent and Tiger’s fall from grace.
