Denver jury finds D.J. Williams guilty of impaired driving

Broncos' Williams recovers a fumble and celebrates with Woodyard during the second half of their NFL football game against the Dolphins in Miami Reuters

Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams was found guilty after a one-day trial stemming from a 2010 drunk driving arrest.

A Denver County jury convicted Williams of driving while ability impaired and driving without his headlights on. Driving while ability impaired is considered a lesser offense than driving under the influence, the charge that Williams was initially arrested for. This is Williams’ second driving while ability impaired conviction in Colorado; he also pleaded guilty to the charge in 2005.

Williams’ attorney, Harvey Steinberg, requested a mistrial after a police officer testified that Williams was taken to detox and that sober people aren’t taken to detox. The judge rejected that motion, and after a short deliberation the jury delivered a verdict of guilty.

The NFL has already suspended Williams for the first six games of this season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. It is not yet known whether he will face an additional NFL suspension after this conviction.

According to the Denver Post, a driving while ability impaired conviction carries a jail sentence of at least 10 days and no more than one year.

Im sure the same jury would have found Peyton innocent!!

I hope they give this drunk the full year but we know that won’t happen. The NFL should suspend him for an additional 8 games. Hit the criminal where it counts, in his pocketbook.

Gotta question a lawyer that didnt strike a plea deal. What good is the lawyer if you are convicted in a trial?

What I find so ironic is police turn a blind eye while waving thousands of legally drunk drivers out of stadium parking lots every Sunday in the Fall.

I thought he would walk on this one given his ability to produce nonhuman urine, and other Broncos players having the devine ability to impregnate women without having intercourse with them. Who figured?

Is that supposed to be a racial shot? Because it doesn’t make any sense…
Peyton Manning does not have the kind of rap sheet that DJ Williams does.
Peyton Manning does not drink and drive.
Peyton Manning does not take performance enhancing drugs.
Peyton Manning doesn’t tweet pictures of the Denver Broncos plays…

DJ Williams is an idiot and he’s going to pay for it…
Sad thing is he’s an idiot that happens to be a really good Linebacker in the NFL. So he’ll be back.
But do NOT make this some sort of racial thing if that is what you were trying to do.
    That comment was completely dumb.
And I’m a lifetime, hardcore Denver Broncos fan.

If your famous that’s what drunk driving is called, for the rest of us its a dui for the exact same thing.

  8. objectivenflfan says: Aug 15, 2012 9:14 PM

DJ is a fine player but his “Dyme Life” is getting old in Denver. You can’t name a media person in Denver who doesn’t hate this cat.

    Give him a year.

  9. objectivenflfan says: Aug 15, 2012 9:15 PM

And Marcus Thomas if you’re reading this (and I know you and DJ are Dyme brothers) do you wonder why you don’t have a job? #Dymelife

Sad thing is hes probably drunk now.

  11. sixburghrules says: Aug 15, 2012 9:42 PM

Bronco’s failure to get this kid help. He’s sick. His illness gives rise to all the names he is being called by people who don’t know him. Nonetheless, he has a problem found in almost every large family. Alcoholism.
Make cannabis legal (as it is harmless) and maybe these guys won’t feel such a need to show their manhood by drinking.

So…in Denver it’s ok to take advantage and impregnate drunk, passed out women….drinking and driving is a no-no….got it!

If DJ wasn’t on the Broncos his @$$ would have been doing some more time then what he got!! So if (average NFL LB) DJ’s case was lowered then you can bet (FUTURE HOF)Peyton would have walked!! Quit living in DENIAL its the TRUTH & And quit acting like you know Peyton, just because you see him on tv!!

Well, well…nice to see there is finally a jury in Colorado that actually got it right. Not like those idiots sitting during the Parrish Cox trial.

I don’t get how the broncos are supposedly going to win this divison. Peyton can’t play on d. Champ at some point is going to get old. U lost ur starter at de today and now ur MLB is most likely going to be suspended for half the yr. Anyway ill say it again the chiefs are going to win the divison.

  18. granadafan says: Aug 15, 2012 11:27 PM

His credibility is completely shot after taking money at the U, submitting animal urine, suing the NFL, and now having his lawyer lie about drunk driving. Good for the jury. The justice needs to lay the hammer on this guy and so does Roger.

  19. maximusprime107 says: Aug 15, 2012 11:39 PM

Give this idiot a whole year. He’s been suspended almost every season. I don’t understand why he’s still on the Broncos, he’s not even that good

  20. sullijo1 says: Aug 16, 2012 12:33 AM

C’mon DJ – you should have played the race card and got out of this.

  21. myhornispurple says: Aug 16, 2012 12:59 AM

He should have plead insanity or better yet dumb. He shoulda plead dumb if he wanted to get off cus dudes preety dumb.

    What a joke.

The only failure I see on the Bronco’s part here is that they haven’t cut this turd already.

  23. scandinaviansausage1974 says: Aug 16, 2012 7:56 AM

Granted, weed is arguably not much more physically harmful than (second hand smoke), but an idiot like DJ would manage to still drive while high (just as dangerous)

  24. jbaxt says: Aug 16, 2012 10:15 AM

So you cant drink and drive but you can do road rage and pull a gun on someone.

    Got it…
