Belichick kicks Edelman, Koutouvides out of practice for fighting

Bill Belichick AP

The fighting has continued at Patriots camp, and Bill Belichick is getting sick of it.

Although Belichick previously said training camp fights are part of football and no big deal, a fight between Julian Edelman and Niko Koutouvides today was a big enough deal that Belichick kicked both players off the field.

The fight started when Edelman, who was fielding a punt, ran into Koutouvides. They exchanged words and shoved each other before Belichick gave them the old heave-ho.

New England has had several fights break out in camp this year. Last time the punishment was more running for everyone, but apparently the message didn’t get through to Edelman and Koutouvides.

since when does a shove constitute a fight? This is football, isn’t it???

Some players may be getting tired of the “Patriot Way”. Could it be some guys are starting to realize they are not people to Belichek, but auto parts to be replaced. The way a team leader and hero Welker got disrespected, they just may be losing respect for the “Way”. Whatever it is, BB seems to be losing his iron grip.

That didnt really sound like a fight…it sounded like a skirmish

tom brady gave a speech about fighting in camp and it didn’t do squat apparently.

the patriots are out of control!

  7. sampulls says: Aug 16, 2012 7:07 PM

A Jets fan (dtr3e) calling the patriots a circus? Anyone?

Pats are just warming up for the stomping of Tebow. They’ll have him saying thousands of Hail Mary’s.

See this the bs im talking about. If this would have been the Jets ESPN would have turned this into something comptletely overblown . Im starting to hate sports journalists. Too many people believe EVERYTHING that comes out their mouths.

“wow sounds like that team is going in the toilet. a circus over there in NE. Go Jets!”

Are you referring to the Patriots? the 3-time Super Bowl champions who have won 8 of the last 9 AFC East titles? The team that has been to 5 Super Bowls in the past 11 years? The team with the 1st-ballot Hall of Fame QB and head coach?

Oh yeah, they’re in so much trouble. … not.

In a 16-game season, the Pats won the AFC East last year by FIVE GAMES!! Are you really naive enough to think a few training camp skirmishes are going to derail the Patriots this season? If so, you’re truly living in a fool’s paradise.

Belichick: What the hell do you think this is, Jets’ camp???

God that Rex! He’s sure a schmuck!!!

  14. jolink653 says: Aug 16, 2012 7:41 PM

Oh yeah two players who might not even make the roster fighting? Team is definitely crumbling…They might as well fire Belichick after that….

It’s training camp and it’s highly competitive…I’d be disappointed if there wasn’t any fighting going on but they’ll stop that quick or they’ll find themselves looking for another team

  15. jetsarestacked says: Aug 16, 2012 7:43 PM

    @sampulls

    i’ll bite!

    1) numerous fights break out in training camp

    2) star receiver gets in a brawl with his friends during his bachelor party

    3) star tightend posing in pics with adult star after they got busy

    4) starting middle linebacker has a sex tape

    5) edelman got arrested for groping a woman

    6) they have a wide receiver who killed someone while driving under the influence

    7) all-world qb’s wife calls out receivers for dropping passes in the superbowl

see how easy it is point stuff out? most of this is tame nonsense just like most of the stuff with the jets. the media is the circus.

Jets fans really aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer…

  17. j0esixpack says: Aug 16, 2012 8:03 PM

Really, as a Patriot fan I have to admit going to the Super Bowl 5 out of 10 years is the epitome of humiliation if you dont win it every single year.

I’m envious of teams like the Jets that refuse to tease their fans with the prospect of winning.

It must be nice for them to be tied with the Houston Oilers for AFC East Championships.

    Pats: losers

    jetsarestacked,

    I’ll bite !

1)fights in training camp : Ditto
2)star receiver gets in brawl? I believe he and friends snuck inot a party?
3)star TE posing with porn star? How about Jets starting QB sleeping with high school age girl ?
    4) Sex Tape while in college? Has Cro memorized his baby’s names yet?
    5) Club video tape proves nothing happened. What happened in Orlando w/ Tone when he slapped the girl across the face?
6)Was not a member of the Patriots just as WakeN Bake was not a member of the Jests.
7)All world QB wife calls out receivers? Sanchez doesn’t get it since he dates high school girls and Tebow is saving himself?

Always easy with the Jets to point things out like January 1968 the only time the jets were in the SB. !

Yeah, I’m sure this is it.

  23. CKL says: Aug 17, 2012 12:51 PM

I honestly think that the only things BB hates about fighting are: a) the possibility a guy will get hurt and b) taking away from practice time, especially now since he’s not thrilled with the new CBA’s limits on practice. Either way, he told the guys to cut it out last time, they didn’t and so the next incident, there were consequences. I’ll give RR credit too, he did the exact same thing with the NYJ, had them run gassers after HE told them to quit it.
