T.O. buried on Seahawks depth chart, for now

610x-1

He arrived a week ago. And in seven days, he hasn’t made much of an impact.

Receiver Terrell Owens is at the bottom of a three-man “other” list behind Golden Tate, Kris Durham, and Braylon Edwards at one receiver position. With Lavasier Tuinei and Ricardo Lockette also in front of him, T.O. technically is on the sixth string.

Then again, that’s the same position Sidney Rice occupies at the other receiver position, behind Ben Obamanu, Deon Butler, Charly Martin, Phil Bates, and Jermaine Kearse. And behind Rice is Doug Baldwin.

So the fact that T.O. has five players in front of him at this point doesn’t mean he won’t make the team, especially since there’s a chance that the depth chart has been constructed not necessarily to rank the players by their actual performance or talents but to send messages, subtle or otherwise.

For Owens, keeping him low for now could be part of the process of humbling a man who has been anything but during his NFL career. And if he remains humble, he may climb the ladder and win a roster spot.

The depth chart reportedly was released for the first time this week, but the online version says that it is based on the team’s preseason opener. But it doesn’t entirely match up with the manner in which players entered the game on Saturday night, based on the official Game Book.

So we’re not sure what it means. But we are sure that, based on the depth chart currently posted on the Seahawks’ official web site, T.O. faces an uphill climb.
