Bowe didn’t show up to camp bc he didn’t want to go camp and sleep in a dorm room and go through the grueling workouts. He had no contract so why not?

2nd. I agree w some posts above, Chiefs will try and short change him. He’s been a stud, even with and EXTREMELY mediocre qb in cassel. He still received for 1150+ yards and spent a lot of time with tyler Palko and a melting down Haley. He is a top 10 wr

He deserves to get paid, and while Pioli has resigned every top player on the Chiefs since he’s been there, they’ve ALL signed for less than market value.

He is the WR equivalent of Larry Johnson. LJ stopped playing as soon as he got paid. Bowe will do the same, except this time it won’t be the Chiefs paying the money.

My biggest question about Bowe: Will he have enough time to learn all Daboll’s shifts and motions and be up to spd on new O by Sept. 9?

I think you fellas missed the point. He wants to play but not long term with the chefs organization. He won’t be around next year nor does he want to stick around in KC. Consider him a gonner after 2012! Bowe THINKS he’s worth the cash but reality is he is not as good as HE thinks he is. IMO A very overrated player who has the big headed NFL WR mentality.

Bowe is a good receiver “Not Great” but good. Scott Pioli knows Bowe is not worthy of a long term contract this season. If he puts out good numbers this season, pay the man. If not, let him walk, simple as that.
The only thing can remember about Bowe is the Monday Night game against Pittsburgh when he had alligator arms on a middle crossing route. 9.5 million is too much for an above average receiver…..

Week 1- 3 catches for 27 yards
Week 2- 5 catches for 45 yards
Week 3- 8 catches for 100 years and 2 td’s
Week 4-1 catch for 13 yards
Week 5- 3 catches for 23 yards
Week 6-6 catches for 80 yards and a td

The Chiefs won’t pay him because he’s probably asking for more than he’s earned. If he wants to be paid like Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald, then he has to prove that he can play like those guys first.

A “very good receiver” does not deserve “great receiver” money.

Maybe Bowe does deserve some of the criticism he is getting here, but he really didn’t do anything wrong. He just didn’t want to go to training camp and without a signed contract, had no contractual obligation to show up. Chiefs fans forget that Tony Gonzalez did the same thing one preseason. Not that the two players are anything alike and the situations were somewhat different, but not too many bashed Tony G for doing it. Look at it this way. For the most part except Daboll, the coaching staff knows what they have in Bowe. Him being absent gave them more reps to evaluate the young guys. There’s probably more than a coin filp’s chance that Bowe is gone after this year anyway. Better to get it right on which young player(s) to keep right now.

I don’t think there is any question he’ll be playing elsewhere after this year but I don’t think it will be because he didn’t want to stay with the Chiefs. It will be because the Chiefs won’t pay him.

In the Week 17 game at Mile High last year, Bowe had 6 catches for 93 yards matched up against Bailey. He left the game around halftime.

Imagine what his final numbers would have been if he had played the whole game?

I understand the desire to get a long term deal so you have a sense of security but holding out not only hurts you but it hurts your teammates as well. I am glad the Chiefs held there ground on this and didnt give in too early.

Players hold out to avoid a training camp injury. Since they are only playing on a one year contract, if they get hurt they could lose a ton of money next year in free agency. Why goto camp and take the risk if you don’t have to? Sure it sucks for the team, but it makes sense if your in the players shoes.

$9.5 million is enough to live the rest of your life extremely comfortable, with no financial worries. That is just 1 seasons pay! Next year he will make even more if they decide to franchise him, otherwise he will get a huge long term contract. What is this guys problem? Greed will bring you down in the end Bowe. Be happy, your F-ing rich!

I don’t understand the concept of holding out then signing late. Missed training camp can only hurt your performance in a “contract year”

I can think of a pretty good reason. Not to get hurt in a worthless preseason game or in training camp and then lose out on a long term deal that can pay you more in the long run.

If you sign your franchise tender you lose any leverage/motivation for your team to want to engage in long-term contract negotiations, that is why they don’t sign them right away.
