The Redskins’ and Colts’ pro shops (and probably all of their merchandising) are both run by the same third party company called MainGate. I’m sure they can imagine nothing better than cashing in on two of their teams at once.

First, two facts and two questions:
1. The NFL is a business.
2. the DC area is flush with cash. If they make a shirt, people will buy it.
3. Since when has making money been a crime?
4. And since when has making money ever interfered with winning?

Next up, assuming you’re addressing Griffin’s commercials: as so many people are more than eager to point out, Robert Griffin hasn’t taken a regular season snap yet, how can anyone say he isn’t concerned with winning?

More importantly, Griff made enough money with those commercials to keep his family comfortable for life. Curtis Lofton could break Griffin’s femur in his first NFL snap (no pun intended, also knock on wood) and the Third might never play football again. The simple fact is, making money while you can is never a bad idea.

$35 for a t-shirt commemorating a preseason matchup between two rookies.

I suppose, if you kept it in mint condition, and both players eventually made the Hall of Fame, you might consider it an investment.

Of course, if one goes all Ryan Leaf, and the other gets hurt and never realizes his full potential, that’s a mighty expensive rag with which to remove wax from your car.

I can think of 34 million reasons why this is OK for the Redskins to do.

Is it tacky as all get up? YES.

Are they consistently ranked in the top 5 franchises in the world while also being the most profitable in the NFL for over a decade? YES

Have they figured out how to use that money to field a winning program NO.
