Tommy Kelly on Kevin Kolb: “That boy’s scared”

AP

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb found it difficult to do much on Friday night to make his case for the starting job.  After all, it’s hard to throw when being constantly harassed by the Raiders defense.

In the end, Kolb had as many sacks as completions:  three.

After a crunching collision between multiple Raiders and Kolb behind the line of scrimmage early in the second quarter, defensive lineman Tommy Kelly said as he made it to the sideline, “That boy’s scared,” according to the Raiders TV broadcast being streamed through NFL.com’s Preseason Live package.

Kolb completed three of six passes for 22 yards, leading the Cardinals on a seven-play, 41-yard touchdown drive.  Kolb’s other scoring drive came via a field goal scored after an interception return by Kerry Rhodes put the ball deep in Oakland territory.  Arizona lost nine yards in three plays before the kick.

It seems like it’s only a matter of time before Kolb loses the starting job.

  1. KC made the cardinals look like a high school team.. scoring with ease and racking up 7 or so sacks.

Raiders play them and get blown out 24-8… then they talk crap about the guys who just beat their butts… typical Raiders

Kolb might be scared… but so is the whole raiders squad.

    Last in the division… again.

  2. Sad thing is , If he were traded back to philly he would probably thrive!
Az is a mess, Kurt Warner was only thing good that organization has seen in years, why fitz signed with th long term is beyond me??
He should be catching strikes by Ponder! 2012 softmore of the year!
    Skol

  3. Kolb is a dumpster fire; yeah i know the OL sucks but you can’t just hang on to the ball and stare down your target. Yes he will be holding a clipboard and will make over 10 million dollars this year for the cards (roster bonus + base salary), yeah i know what you are thinking…sick.

The VERY poor mans version of Ben Roethlisberger, John Skelton does not look phased while under pressure in the pocket. This guy will start the season. Too bad that the cards Defense will need to carry the team for the first 6 or 8 games this season.

  4. And there are reports of a post-game shooting in the parking lot. Raiders fans still don’t know how to lose gracefully.

  5. At a certain point, doesn’t Andy Reid have to get credit for getting the most out of his QB’s? DMac, Kolb and Feely all managed to look much better in Green than they did anywhere else. Reid hoodwinked WAS, AZ and MIA in those deals…. of course, he didn’t get more than a ham sandwich for Asante

  6. TJ Yates a third string quarterback took the Texans to the playoffs last year with Greg Knapps system. Does it suck or are guys not executing?

  7. Kolb gets up slow every time he is knocked down, and it’s not because he’s hurt– It’s because he doesn’t want to play football anymore. You can see it on his swollen, droopy face.

  8. Of course hes scared. That O-line cant block anyone, hes been running for his life every preseason game

  9. That boy’s scared… scared enough to burn you for 2 consecutive scoring drives. The Raiders even talk smack when they are getting beaten down!?

  10. I”ll admit last year i was on kolbs side and said he needs some time and this and that but its not.lookin good for him and it.seems like a bad trade at this point, good luck on that qb situation cards fans.

  11. As a Philly fan, I like kolb. I’ve met with him, we chatted, real nice guy. Unfortunately for the cards, they got fleeced by the eagles. Thanks for drc and Kendricks. Seems like a fair deal. Lol

  12. Wow. A player saying another player is scared is just about the worst thing that can be said by one guy about another. I think I’d rather someone said I was terrible than that that I played scared.

    What an asinine post.

Raiders lost 31-27. Not really a blow out. Unless you consider winning by four in the preseason “a blow out”

Saying someone is “scared” is different than “talking crap about them”

Raiders weren’t last in the division last year, it was KC, so them being last “again” can’t happen.

But, hey, don’t let facts get in the way of making ridiculous statements.

  14. Hulkhogan, you might want to stop calling everyone “brother.” No one here has the misfortune to share any DNA with you. You can deduce that based on the fact that most here are actually literate and sane.

  15. Blow out? The Raiders first team units (with the exception of special teams) outplayed the Cards or did you not see that the Raiders outgained Arizona 184 to 52 in the first half? After the first drive Oakland’s D completely shut down Arizona.

It’s the preseason and like most teams Oakland has things to work. Green Bay lost something like 34 to 10 to Cleveland of all teams. Should GB be worried?

Red zone offense needs to improve and the special teams have to play better. The Raiders are moving the ball up and down the field and playing good defense, though. More often than not, that will you more than your fair share of games.

  16. This offense looks like it did before Hue Jackson arrived. Its sloppy with pold execution.

Carson Palmer can not run the West Coast Offense. He doesn’t trust what he sees in this offense so the ball comes out late making him look inaccurate and turnover-prone.

2008 Jamarcus Russell in Greg Knapp’s offense is going to look a lot better than 2012 Carson Palmer in Knapp’s offense. If you blitz Palmer and take away his check down receiver he’s done.

  17. Hi Ken…it’s Andy

I have this great QB named Foles. Hell of an arm and a real player. I’m sorry Kolb didn’t work out but I want to make it up to you. Two ones and Fitz should get it done.

The score was 31-27. Learn how to count.

  19. @aaroncurryisbust no, but I do remember when they signed T-Joke as their QB of the future and said he never got a fair shot in MN, then I remember when they way overpaid for another career backup out of Green Bay. Don’t feel left out there will be plenty of pointing and laughing at your squad yet to come!

  20. Well, when a guy like Tommy Kelly ( with all that playoff experience) calls you out, you must be pretty bad…..Kelly was such a dog in college that he went undrafted despite skills and ability that should have gotten him selected in the early rounds; and while he’s shown occasional flashes of talent in Oakland, he’s mostly known for scoring a monster contract from Al Davis…..
….Kolb needs to pick up his game, but he should not worry about anything Kelly has to say…..
