Bears rookie safety Brandon Hardin was taken off the field on a stretcher after suffering what appeared to be a neck injury in the third quarter of Saturday night’s preseason game.

Hardin lowered his head and led with his helmet in tackling Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen, and on the impact he dropped to the ground and did not get up. Hardin was down on the ground for several minutes being attended to by the medical staff. Eventually a stretcher and a cart were brought out, and Hardin was taken off the field.

It was a very good sign that Hardin raised his hands and gave a thumbs-up as he was being carted off the field.

The Bears drafted Hardin in the third round even though he missed his entire senior season at Oregon State last year with a shoulder injury. Everyone in Chicago is hoping that Hardin’s recovery from this injury comes more quickly.
