bigblueapple: Overrated and over-hyped doesn't mean ``terrible.''
Ben Roethlisberger, for example, is a GOOD quarterback. However, in the two Super Bowls the Steelers have won with him at QB, Roethlisberger has thrown a combined ONE touchdown pass, which leads me to believe that others must've picked up the slack. That's TEAM chemistry.
Winning with TEAM chemistry in the absence of a so-called ``elite'' quarterback is not that unusual in the NFL.
The league's history is full of success stories that didn't include ESPN-approved superstar quarterbacks.
I agree with you that the Jets acquiring Tebow was a dumb idea.

"There are only a scarce few quarterbacks who can carry teams: Brees, Rodgers, Brady, and maybe Peyton Manning. All the others are overrated, overhyped and figments of ESPN’s wild imagination."

While what you said about those QB's being a cut above the rest may be true, all the other QB's are not all on the same level. Some actually have more talent than others... and most have more ability than Sanchez and Tebow combined (Stafford, Eli, Rivers, Romo, Big Ben, and the list goes on). I can see even a few of them being future Super Bowl champs.

I think Jets fans need to accept that the Tebow trade did not help the team much, they just added another QB who doesn't seem good enough. I think a trade or signing of a solid WR would have helped their situation much more.

I'll say they looked bad.. But it is just preseason. What you can take away is the fact that fundamentally they looked bad. The O-line was not on point at all, looked like a lot of bad communication... And that falls on the QB's. As a Bills fan this just looks better and better for us... They better hope that the D can hold teams under 17 points every game because I don't see this offense breaking 20 very often.. Prediction Rex is out by week 6.. Timmy starting by week 7.

Let's look at it both ways - Sanchez was 9/11 with an INT without a 1, 2, or 3 receiver and Wayne Hunter acting like a revolving door. Eli Manning was 7/14 with an INT.

The Jets also gave the Giants extra plays with a special teams penalty...take that away and Manning's night was even less average.

snoilog: I'd be interested to see Stafford without Calvin Johnson.
The guy who might be the league's best ``overall and complete'' QB is Cam Newton. Newton accounted for 35 TDs last season as a ROOKIE.
It's always been my belief that QBs (unless they play offense, defense and special teams) are not responsible for wins and losses but are only responsible for protecting the ball and placing their offenses into end zones. Based on my own theory, the much-maligned Tony Romo is also among the ``elite.''

Uh, it's not just Sanchez or Tebow. I can care less about any of them, but I do like the fact that Tebow can win games on will with less skill.

But that being said, what I saw yesterday was a bad football team. Name one player on the Jets, besides the punter, that played well. I can't think of any!

But this doesn't excuse bad play from Sanchez or Tebow, but they were all bad.

Man...that's almost funny! Remind me again how the Ravens did last year in the playoffs? Oh yeah - they didn't win the super bowl either....there are two types of teams in the NFL playoffs - ones that win the super bowl and ones that don't...so I guess the ravens and steelers were pretty much the same at the end of the season....but nice job dwelling on a game that was 8 months ago...

The Jets went to the AFC Championship two years in a row. Then last year they didn't even go to the playoffs and last night they looked like they couldn't even field a team. I know it's pre-season, but everyone came out with their first string and the game wasn't even as close as the score would indicate.

Remember the "Peter Principle"? That's a rule that says as long as you do your job well you'll get promoted. You will be promoted until you finally get a job that you can't handle, then you'll be left there.

Message to the NFL: Quit promoting men named Ryan past the level of Defensive Coordinator!!

There are only a scarce few quarterbacks who can carry teams: Brees, Rodgers, Brady, and maybe Peyton Manning. All the others are overrated, overhyped and figments of ESPN’s wild imagination.

----------------------------------------------------BTW You forgot Stafford in that list with Brees, Rodgers and such and such

Thank God Mayhew made the right choice and didn't take the Sanchize (People in Detroit wanted Sanchez instead of Matty Fire)

bigblueapple: Football is the Ultimate Team Sport, and both Sanchez and Tebow are the types of quarterbacks who need all the help they can get to be even mediocre.
We've seen Sanchez play well in the past. Tebow played well against the unprepared Steelers last postseason. Based on past performances, they've proven that on better TEAMS they aren't as pathetic as they have been this preseason.

The Giants are the better team and thanks to Metlife they have a trophy to prove it.

Jerry R and Tom C have a stacked roster there third string could start on half the teams in the NFL

Rex would give his left foot for David Carr.

I know it is preseason but after watching the the 2nd and 3rd string play these kids get it they are fighting for a spot and are giving there all the 1st string needs to work hard to keep there spots.

I do hope the jets staff is taking all the ugly green down so Championship blue can be installed for Friday night

With that O line I can't wait for opening day. Buffalo's front 4 will be in the backfield more than your starting RB. When dirty Sanchez is put out of the game and Teblow comes in and he throws all his int's and gets beat on.Then what? Rex gonna come in and be the QB. Good luck Jets fans..

With their Offensive line in the shape its in, Sanchez looking like he has lost all confidence in himself, expect the Jets to be lucky to make it to 7-9. I don't care how good they say their Defense is, with the Offense playing the way that they are, even if they keep opponents at a low score it won't matter. I kinda figured that was the reason that Rex Ryan wasn't boasting about the whole team like he usually does, he just talked up the one half that he might come close to getting right, the D.

5-14 for 69 is a MONSTER game for Tebow... he is truly delivering the same level of performance as last year.... 69 yards! and this is only his 3rd year in the NFL!

it's a good thing they have that level of quality and preparedness at backup in case Sanchez doesn't perform at a pro bowl level....

wow

If this keeps up, they might as well move Sportscenter to the Jets facility.

Haven't they already?

Word is that they're just waiting for the cable guy to get in there to help them set up their Xbox Live! accounts
