Chargers’ Vincent Brown suffers broken ankle

Chargers receiver Vincent Brown scored a touchdown in Saturday night’s preseason game, but it came at a significant price: Brown was hit in the end zone by Cowboys defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah just after scoring and suffered a broken ankle on the play.

Brown will have surgery and miss at least eight weeks, Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego reports.

The Chargers had high hopes this season for Brown, a 2011 third-round draft pick who caught 19 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. But surgery for a broken ankle will be a tough injury for any receiver to recover from and still contribute during the season.

After running back Ryan Mathews suffered a broken collarbone last week, the Chargers have now had two significant injuries to offensive skill position players, just two weeks into the preseason.

Not that’s a shame as he is a good/hard working kid – route receiver type who was only going to get better. Guess the “new” Bold D will have to suck it up?

    Don’t hold your breath.

Yeah, you knew that was going to be the outcome when you saw the play live.

Hurt on a worthless tackle (he was in the endzone) on a worthless play in a worthless game.

And the owners want to add two more games?

And the trophy case remains empty.

well, actually owners want to add 2 more regular season games and subtract 2 preseason games so odds of getting hurt in a worthless game will be less

The owners want to add two more games which takes away two preseason games.. This would have happens anyway. But if it were a regular season game, that safety would not have been playing.

We’re tied with the Chargers, even though we don’t have a team.

    Shot down in flames.

Rough break for an already shaky squad. Questions on the o-line, running back is injured again, and now this. Dallas cries about the “window closing”, but the Bolts should be feeling that pressure, as much if not more than any team…

I’m not a chargers fan, but why does someone from Canada continuously come on this site and talk smack about every team. You don’t see Americans on a rocky and bowinkle site. Joe, get off the site you’re not wanted and that’s aboot it.

This team is sruck by Murphy’s law. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. They practice in Murphy Canyon and they play in a stadium that was called the Murph. Therefore Murphy’s law.

    2 preseason games down
    2 big contributors down

I’ve found that minor level injuries are better to happen before the season as it gives you a chance to get players back by mid season when other teams are getting injured.

That being said, NOTHING is more frustrating than watching players not even make it to the regular season. Vincent Brown was the absolute standout WR of the team…..now gone, all so the others can make exhibition money.

Doesn’t matter – we still have Norv as a coach and Phillip Rivers chucking up INTs all game long – it was going to be a sh!tty season anyway so we might as well have a really horrid one. Perhaps Spanos will then fire Norv and we can get back to having a chance to advance past the first playoff game.
