Jerry Jones doesn’t expect Miles Austin back soon

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not optimistic about receiver Miles Austin returning soon from a hamstring injury.

Jones said after Saturday night’s preseason game that he expects to see some of the players who missed that game to return for the third preseason game. But not Austin.

He’s not one of the ones I’m thinking will be back,” Jones said, via DallasCowboys.com. “I wouldn’t discount it, but he’s not one of the ones that I have coming back.”

That probably means Austin will miss the entire preseason: Starters are usually shelved for the final preseason game, so Austin missing the third preseason game would likely mean the Cowboys will just have to hope he can be at full speed for the September 5 opener against the Giants. Austin missed the entire preseason last year, too.

Hamstring injuries have been a consistent problem for Austin, who missed six games last year.
