After 2 PRESEASON games.
Really?!?!?

After a shaky start Luck bounced back and looked good. That 2nd int wasn’t his fault. This kid looks very poised in the pocket. He’s gonna be a good one.

Man this Luck/ RGIII “rivalry” is going to get old very fast. I love how Luck answered the question regarding this “rivalry”– he said it doesn’t exist. Smart kid; I’d say smarter than others in the league, “brother”.

Just a bizarre paragraph from every angle. First of all, every NFL expert has remarked on how poised and in control both Griffin and Luck have looked in their games. Secondly, making any judgments about a rookie quarterback in the preseason will almost never fail to make one look foolish in the future. Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Cam Newton all had bad rookie preseasons. The best preseason performance by a rookie QB in the last fifteen years was Ryan Leaf.

Third, Luck sits back in the pocket and rifles the ball into a receivers’ hands? Yeah, except for the times he rifled it into the Steelers’ hands. (Nothing against Luck, the kid should be great, and based on the trends I discussed above, everyone who wants to see him have a great career should be encouraging him to suck it up in the preseason, as that’s clearly what superstars do.) “Griffin sits back in the pocket, thinks about what he’s going to do and scrambles”? The thing about Griffin that has most impressed everyone so far is how quickly he reads the field, finds a receiver and gets the ball out of his hand, so it’s hard to imagine where your perception is coming from. Relatedly, the Third has scrambled three times in two games so far, all with a very ramshackle O-line protecting him against a very aggressive Bears defense.

Next Griffin’s head was not “knocked off” and his back-up “had to come in” because that’s how the preseason works. “His back-up played better than him” because he was playing against the Bears third string defense with the Redskins second string receivers.

Lastly, wasted draft picks? Really? So you’d rather have had Tannehill, who’s much more of a project player and a much riskier pick?

In summary, judging rookie quarterbacks in the preseason is more or less an exercise in futility. I’m sure there were a bunch of Debbie Downers in Indianapolis feeling the same exact way back in 1998, and how dumb do they feel now, with Peyton heading for Canton and Leaf heading for parole in two years. Point is, let the kids play a season or two, then start comparing Luck and Griffin. While one may be better than the other, it will be a shock if either one of them is bad.

Saw Drew Stanton play in the third Q and remembered he was originally signed by the Jets this off season to be Mark Sanchez’ back-up. When Tebow was acquired he asked out of the Circus…in a class move, the Jets obliged.

Funny thing, is, he would probably be the best QB on NY’s roster if he was still there.

The level of play is too fast and the rules too complicated for these sub refs. This is the first game I’ve watched closely and I’m shocked at how bad they are – almost incompetent.

Meanwhile, this sniping between Luck boosters and RGIII boosters is childish. They are both very talented, very intelligent, and have potentially great careers ahead of them. I wish them both the best.

1. That sounds like you’re not an RG3 fan.

That’s like saying, “I’m a huge Peyton Manning fan, but Tom Brady is a way better quarterback than he’ll ever be!”

2. Luck’s already a top 10 QB? No weaknesses?
He looks good, and I’m optimistic about his future, but on a night where he throws 2 INTs, maybe you stop putting him in the top 10 in the league. Seriously. You’re setting this kid up to fail.

He’s legit. the second interception wasn’t his fault. He threw passes where defenses couldn’t catch them. colts will be fine for the next 8 years

Ok, so is anyone else furious that the replacement refs blew a play dead when the Steelers had too many men on the field when the Colts were close to scoring a touchdown in the first quarter I believe? Why would they do that? Let the play play out. Worse though is that Hicks (whom I have a lot of respect for) and Collinsworth didn’t even note it at all. Shouldn’t they have? Anyone else see that?

And as far as the refs, I’ve been thinking that Florio was embellishing how bad they were, as he sometimes is less than objective when he’s clearly on one side during a dispute, but chriminy, this has been brutal to watch.

First of all, (and nothing against Luck, he looks calm and in control, despite the mistakes) what’s wrong with checkdowns? If you can complete a fuve yard checkdown 98 percent of the time, why would you ever need to force it into coverage downfield?

Secondly, Griffin has thrown a total of 17 passes so far in the NFL, and you are already pigeonholing him as a certain style of quarterback who can only throw a certain kind of pass?

He sure ended the half pretty good. The kid can play and I am no fan. He is everything they said he was. Arm strength isn’t the best if you want to get real picky but it is good enough. Luck will be a top 15 QB easy this year.

Luck is better than RGIII right now because he spent time in a prostyle offense in college. But RGIII has a higher ceiling and once he gets the game down he’s going to surpass Luck.

The first pick was really the only bad throw Luck made all game. He looked like a vet for the rest of the half. One of his best throws was the one that the rookie receiver batted in the air and into the hands of a defender.

I know saying your first NFL pass goes for a TD sounds cool enough but lets be honest, it was a slip screen, in which 99.9% of the work was done by Donald Brown and his O-line.
