The Saints have signed veteran wideout Greg Camarillo, according to a cut-out-the-middle-man blog by his agent.

Camarillo has played six years in the league, bouncing through Minnesota, Miami and San Diego. He has 142 career receptios for 1,686 yards and five touchdowns.

The Saints are also placing linebacker Chris Chamberlain (knee) and offensive lineman Fenuki Tupou (triceps) on injured reserve, according to Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. They also have a group of receivers with some injuries, leaving them thin in practice.

Camarillo will walk in the door familiar with a few things, as he spent part of the offseason working out in San Diego with Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Whether that’s enough to earn him a roster spot remains to be seen.

This is like dying and going to heaven for him. A pass happy offense. He’ll see a lot of balls.

This kid can be a solid addition as injury insurance and as a 3rd down specialist. When he was with Miami he was the only bright spot on that 1-15 season. The knock on Greg is that half of us probably are more athletic than him (he was a walk on punter on Stanford and somehow made it to the NFL). But thats about the only knock on him. He is one of the sharpest route runners around, his football IQ is extremely high, he has great hands but above all he is freaking clutch. Good for him.

Miami could have used a vet receiver that can seperate from the rookies.

never knew why we got rid of him for Benny Sapp, the year before we traded him he caught EVERY ball that targetted him. Literally, every one.

John Barr found evidence that the Saints cheated to sign him

Agree with phinfan! If the Saints cut you, Greg, PLEASE stop by in Miami! Slow? Sure. Never played in a WCO? who cares! You are the most surehanded WR maybe in Fins history and they need you! (I know I know, the Saints give you a shot at a SB ring…)

Shows you don’t know anything about the Dolphins history. Ever heard of Mark Clayton and Mark Duper?
Davone Bess is more sure handed than him and he’s a slot receiver. If he came he would be in the same boat Chad was in, fighting for a spot.

Interesting. Saints would have to keep six receivers for him to have a shot at the 53-man roster. Colston, Moore, and Henderson are in. Courtney Roby appears to have done enough to stick around. That leaves Joe Morgan, Camarillo, Toon (injured), Arrington (injured), and Tanner (injured) to battle it out for that 6th spot.

    What about the 5th spot?

I don’t understand why the saints would pick him up they’re already going to have to cut someone with:
    1 Colston
    2 Moore
    3 Henderson
    4 Roby
    5 Toon
    6 Arrington
    7 Tanner

Saints need a body for camp, plus this season they have 5 preseason games, and have a couple receivers nicked up.
