Getty ImagesWhen the Jets signed safety LaRon Landry as a free agent, they hoped that he’d be healthy enough to make an impact at safety after the team got dreadful play at the position in 2011.
Landry showed some signs of that on Saturday night with an interception and a big hit on Giants receiver Victor Cruz after Cruz made a catch coming over the middle. Cruz held onto the ball and got up with a demonstrative first down celebration after a hit that Landry told him to expect when they were jawing at one another earlier in the contest.
“Once they called that route, I was kind of trying to stay away from him as much as possible,” Cruz said, via the New York Daily News. “He got a pretty good lick on me.”
It looked like Landry might have led with his helmet on the hit, which wasn’t flagged, but Cruz called it a “very legal” hit. We’ll find out soon enough if the NFL agrees with Cruz’s assessment.
It wasn’t a good night for the Jets offense, but Landry’s performance was something to feel good about when the game came to a close. It looks like any chance the Jets have for success this season is going to start with defense and they’ll need Landry on the field to make that happen.

Typical LaRon. He’s the ultimate teaser of a player. If he were truly reliable, he’d still be a Redskin, but he’s just not and that’s the bottom line because Stone Cold said so.
Dirty Landry.
Cruz has looked really good this preseason. Last year was not just a flash in the pan.
Cruz still don’t know what happen
While Josh Alper was watching Tebow AND WONDERING WHAT COLOR HIS PANTIES WERE, I was watching the game… didn’t look like he led with his head to me. Unlike Rogers-Cromartie’s hit on Leftwich last week, THIS WAS A CLEAN HIT.
LaRon wanted to be like Sean Taylor looking for big hits and over-playing while with the Redskins. I don’t see anything changing with this juicer.
As Redskins fans know all too well, Laron Landry will be injured within 6 games. I hope the Jets have a serviceable backup.
The rock says well done delhommed
“Cruz still don’t know what happen”
Sure he does. Completed pass … first down …
The jets still don’t know how to beat the giants.
“Cruz still don’t know what happen”
Sure he does. He absolutely embarrassed the Jets during the regular season on his way to winning a Lombardi. He, and the Giants, did what Rex and the Jets only talk about.
BTW- Nice looking team ya got there, champ. You ain’t sniffing the Super Bowl with those QBs behind center. Maybe Rex can hold another 100 or so press conferences and see if that fixes it.
The Jets dont know how to beat anybody. That offense is a joke and the defense isnt far behind.

How original
Wait til Ryan Clark hits ya victor, he doesn’t care about getting fined
Does Rex intentionally want an undermanned, underperforming non explosive offense to make his defense looks good? The Jets might win 6 ugly games. Yuck! I won’t be watching. Snooze alert
Can someone ban these wrestling WWE fans who parrot their favorite “wrestler”. This is an adult site.
They are doomed then.
He did lead with is helmet but hit Cruz in the shoulder/chest area. It didn’t look like there was intent to injure him. I am a Giants fan and I would call it a clean enough hit.
It was a good, clean hit but an even better job of Cruz holding onto the ball.
I like the fact Cruz took the hit, held onto the ball and then later acknowledged it was a good clean hit and moved on. No whining, no false bravado.
I’m starting to think this kids a baller.
Look at the triceps on LeRon……looks abnormal.
The nature boy speaks: I’m styling and profiling…I luv profootballtalk, but this Laron Landry guy is a china doll..he is huge, but I hope Jets have a backup plan when he doesn’t play whole season…woooooooo…Jets quarterbacks are awful to watch……now that’s a fact..woooooooooo
