As I recall Johnson's contract had a one-strike clause - this whole situation is not a surprise to him at all - if he is too stupid to read what he signs, his attorney should read it to him and interpret for him.

To those indignant Miami players, shut the hell up and start playing. You can't handle your own performance and lives, so stay out of managements'!

Players were pissed because they know that chad was the only legit option they had at receiver. fascinating portion of the show, I think Philban is going to struggle as a head coach because he is to0 set in his ways. This Dolphins team is going to be awful and it is clear the locker room knows it. Chad shouldn't have been cut and now their rookie franchise QB has absolute garbage to throw too, Ricardo Wallace!!?? Side-note, they definitely should keep that tight end with the smokeshow of a girlfriend.

how do posts like this make it thru the stupidity filters?

I saw a comment that Philbin has been soft and there is nothing further from the truth... he's been completely no nonsense... and Long's leading the worst unit on the team....

Just because you aren't throwing a Madden doesn't mean you can't coach.....

I can tell you one thing..... Marshall got cut on rep only, 85 was one strike out and was on the way out before on performance..... everyone on that team is worried about their performance and integrity resulting in a firing....

and that's a pretty good situation

Ok. In 09' the Bengals had T.O. who is a better WR than Chad and that showed with the amount of targets T.O. had that year compared to Chad. In N.E. Chad was asked to do alot more than what he has ever been asked to do in Cincy. Welker, Branch, Troy Brown, etc. all hard working, good character guys who bought into the system from day one where there is no #1 receiver. Chad didn't buy in because of what he was use to in Cincy and therefore he didn't produce that year. 2 years later he's washed up 'O_o'. On EP.1 of Hard Knocks the WR coach stated that Chad was the man, in so many words. Philbin didn't want him. I understand that as a new head coach and therefore he let him go.

I'm not going to speculate on what happened between him and the bird he married but it's all his fault in the end.

--tearsofhaten----seems to me you've got some real life issues going on with yourself when you "hate" the new coach AND think you have a scintilla of knowledge in a how a man should morn the loss of a son. Dictating how a man deals with the loss of a child is beyond close-minded, selfish and ignorant. It's just pathetic. Often men and/or women will delve deeper into a work event after a death as it serves as a haven for that person to mourn the loss of someone special. I don't hear you "hatin'" on Andy Reid when it's obvious he is doing the same thing.

The fact that I was irked enough to respond to such a blatantly ignorant statement clearly shows I, too, have some self-control issues I need to work with to even render your response worthy of a counter response.

"I dealt with a similar thing playing college football, not so long ago, where the coaching staff elected “associate captains” to keep an eye on things that others couldn’t, or didn’t care to, and I got caught in a situation with a guy that had is own prerogative and blew me in for something that in hindsight maybe I shouldn’t have done, but am still yet to fully accept that"

Bush, Dansby and Long? Who would follow those three? If that's who's leading the Dolphins its no surprise they stink. Cut them, too.

Martin can move to LT to replace Long.
Thomas/Slaton/Miller can replace Bush.
Bring Crowder back to replace Dansby.

Better yet, trade Reggie to the JETS. That seems like a perfect fit.

As usual the inmates want to run the penitentiary. Philbin displayed no leadership by going along with these three players whinning that they weren't consulted first.

Philbin needed to make the point that Chad was told what the deal was up front and those are the consequences. Now let's just all move on since Chad may not have made the roster anyway.

Instead Philbin tried to appease them a move he will regret later.

What has Reggie Bush ever done to be considered a team leader? The guy's not even a starter on 90% of the teams in this league.

How about you prove you can duplicate last season before you appoint yourself a team leader. NFL history is full of guys that put one nice season together before washing out.

I understand him getting cut, but I still think it was a mistake. At the end of the day you need to sell tickets and win games. You don't get merit badges in the NFL. I'm with Charles Barkley on this one...who came up with the stupid notion that because you have extreme athletic ability, that it also makes you a role model, or someone of high character. I'm not condoning what Chad did, but it is an irrelevant subject in relation to him doing his job. Ironic thing is after putting football on the back burner to build a career for himself after football, he now needs football again. There are a few teams that could be in crisis if hit by injury at WR. I think he'll play again. But will any GM be convinced he can learn enough of the playbook this late in the process to actually produce? He may have to do what TO did and sit out a year.

Jake Long is the man. This is his lockerroom. Guy is first class off and on the field.

A leadership commitee or something similar exists in all sports for all teams.

Another 'LOL DOLPHINS' story.

If the Jets had a leadership group that cared about their fellow players rather THAN GETTING THEIRS, maybe they wouldn't have imploded on our field in the huddle during week 17 last year.

PS: Thank God we got rid of that stupid baseball infield and let the Marlins move their circus out.

There's deeper issues that something like this can lead to and I strongly believe can ultimately resignate negatively rather than positively. I dealt with a similar thing playing college football, not so long ago, where the coaching staff elected "associate captains" to keep an eye on things that others couldn't, or didn't care to, and I got caught in a situation with a guy that had is own prerogative and blew me in for something that in hindsight maybe I shouldn't have done, but am still yet to fully accept that, and really ended up leading to the end of my 10 year football career. These guys are professionals yes, and maybe less petty things occur, but perhaps such things are actually escalated. All I'm saying is that when certain people are handed leadership it doesn't guarantee a sounder team structure, especially if these people use in ways that dont gain them the respect from the rest of the team. And with a team already knee deep in drama a situation evolving is by no means out of the question.

Dumping Johnson immediately was the correct move. He's finished, he's a dope and he's a distraction. Miami doesn't need his circus tent persona or the lame drama that comes with it. And he couldn't make an impact with Tom Brady as his QB, what makes anyone think Tannehill or Moore would have brought out his best?

I know Philbin comes across as non-threatening in player meetings, but consider his record:

He requested Brandon Marshall (who in the past two years was stabbed by his wife and was accused of punching a woman at a night club) be traded.

He demoted Vontae Davis, a former first round pick.

He cut Chad Johnson within 24 hours of his release after his arrest.

I think that's what the players were talking about when it came to "“they indicated that they think the coaching staff and front office could do a better job of communicating with players who may be in danger of losing their jobs”.

Philbin talks softly but carries big stick, to quote Teddy Roosevelt. People are getting demoted and cut for conduct detrimental to the team, so make no mistake - he's making a stern impression, even if he comes across as even-keeled and soft-spoken.
