In 09′ the Bengals had T.O. who is a better WR than Chad and that showed with the amount of targets T.O. had that year compared to Chad. In N.E. Chad was asked to do alot more than what he has ever been asked to do in Cincy. Welker, Branch, Troy Brown, etc. all hard working, good character guys who bought into the system from day one where there is no #1 receiver. Chad didn’t buy in because of what he was use to in Cincy and therefore he didn’t produce that year. 2 years later he’s washed up ‘O_o’. On EP.1 of Hard Knocks the WR coach stated that Chad was the man, in so many words. Philbin didn’t want him. I understand that as a new head coach and therefore he let him go.

I’m not going to speculate on what happened between him and the bird he married but it’s all his fault in the end.

At the end of the day you need to sell tickets and win games. You don’t get merit badges in the NFL. I’m with Charles Barkley on this one…who came up with the stupid notion that because you have extreme athletic ability, that it also makes you a role model, or someone of high character. I’m not condoning what Chad did, but it is an irrelevant subject in relation to him doing his job. Ironic thing is after putting football on the back burner to build a career for himself after football, he now needs football again. There are a few teams that could be in crisis if hit by injury at WR. I think he’ll play again. But will any GM be convinced he can learn enough of the playbook this late in the process to actually produce? He may have to do what TO did and sit out a year.

These guys are professionals yes, and maybe less petty things occur, but perhaps such things are actually escalated. All I’m saying is that when certain people are handed leadership it doesn’t guarantee a sounder team structure, especially if these people use in ways that dont gain them the respect from the rest of the team. And with a team already knee deep in drama a situation evolving is by no means out of the question.

He demoted Vontae Davis, a former first round pick.

He cut Chad Johnson within 24 hours of his release after his arrest.

I think that’s what the players were talking about when it came to ““they indicated that they think the coaching staff and front office could do a better job of communicating with players who may be in danger of losing their jobs”.

Philbin talks softly but carries big stick, to quote Teddy Roosevelt. People are getting demoted and cut for conduct detrimental to the team, so make no mistake – he’s making a stern impression, even if he comes across as even-keeled and soft-spoken.
