From a couple of years on the Pat’s taxi squad begging not to be let go, to being a hold-out for more money? Boy, how soon they forget where they came from. A durable, unspectacular runner, with an apparently well endowed ego of late. Let him sit until he sees the light,… or the bill for the electricity, mortgage payment, car payment, etc.

He’s got three years left on his current deal. Sorry, he’s in the wrong here.

Here’s the situation – he is entering his 7th season and toted the pill 343 times last year. History shows that backs who carry that much pretty much fall off a cliff soon after.

MJD knows this. He’s almost done, and wants another huge payday before everyone else sees it on the field.

I’d just like to congratulate everyone hating on MJD for being greedy, disloyal to his fans, and for not “honoring” his contract. You are exactly the type of fans NFL owners love!

Pretend that MGD wasn’t the rushing leader last season. Pretend he had substandard year, and/or was seriously injured again. Do you think the owner’s would lose any sleep about “honoring” his contract?

Honor does not exist in the NFL, in its place are non-guaranteed contracts. When players underperform or get injured, they get cut, when they outperform, they occasionally hold out for what they’ve earned, and are considered traitors by delusional “fans”.

I normally agree with the honor the contract argument, however I feel the NFL is a different beast. Contracts are not guaranteed, and the risk of injury especially for a RB is so big that you have to get paid before you turn 30. In addition when final cut down day comes on Aug 31st I don’t think we will see anyone take to the board and tell the NFL teams they should honor their contracts to all the men they just cut. It is the nature of the beast, and unfortunately the fans are the ones caught in the middle.

MJD went about this the wrong way. Now, MJD has taken it to a new level which I don’t think can be fixed. Three years ago, MJD was all smiles when he signed a front loaded contract which paid him over $7mill/year. This was before he had proven anything at all. The Jaguars took a chance and paid an unproven RB top three money. Now all of the sudden he is “disrespected?” Is it really disrespectful to say “the train is leaving, get on it?” If MJD played at a very high level this year, the Jags would have paid him, even though they alreadydid. Now, I don’t see it happening. Sad part isof how disappointedIhappening.

The Jags rewarded MJD very handsomely before he was even a starter in the NFL, before he ever rushed for 1,000 yards.
Not many franchises would do that.

Normally I’m on the player’s side, but MJD already got a pay-raise in his current contract that made him one of the highest paid RBs in the league.

He’s not a former 4th round pick on his rookie deal who is FAR outproducing his contract. He already got his veteran’s deal that reflected his status as a top 5 RB.

That’s why there’s the limited sympathy.
I want elite players to get paid – and he’s already gotten paid.

If he’s still elite in 2 years, he’ll get paid again.

I believe MJD is worth more money and should be given a new contract. Problem is, the timing is bad. RB’s these days are everywhere! Teams are 3 freaking deep at good RB’s. The Jags can go with what the have this season and next year make it a priority to replace him.

MoJo was always screaming for more carries the whole time he was in Jax. He would throw a fit if he was subbed, even late in a game that was already decided. So they gave him the ball a lot, he picked up a lot of yardage, and now he is using that to try to leverage a new contract. There are quite a few players around the league who could get the same production as a featured back on a run first team who never leaves the game. It was the best case scenario for MJD in Jacksonville last season. The passing game was in flux, his backup Rashad Jennings was IRed for the season, and by mid point his pursuit of the rushing title was the sole focus of the offense.
