Russell Wilson will get his opportunity to show what he can do with the Seahawks’ first-string offense on Friday night.

We noted this morning that there were indications Wilson would start at quarterback for Seattle’s third preseason game, and now ESPN’s Adam Schefter has confirmed that Wilson will start on Friday at Kansas City.

NFL coaches usually use Week Three of the preseason as a tune-up for their starters, so this decision suggests that Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is seriously considering making Wilson the starter when the regular season begins.

Matt Flynn has been the favorite to win the quarterback derby in Seattle all along, but Wilson has played well enough in the preseason to make the competition close. If Wilson has a big game playing with the Seahawks’ starters against the Chiefs’ starters, it’s entirely possible that Wilson will join Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill and Brandon Weeden and become the NFL’s fifth rookie starting quarterback.
