Jason Pierre-Paul given day off with back spasms

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, and now he can’t get on the field to distract anyone from them.

Pierre-Paul was held out of practice today because of back spasms, and coach Tom Coughlin said he wouldn’t play Friday against the Bears.

Pierre-Paul had back issues earlier in camp, and Coughlin said he gave him the day off “to get him off his feet.”

It’ll end up being precautionary based on what he had to do today by not letting him work,” Coughlin said, via the Newark Star-Ledger. “He would have practiced and played, but the medical people kind of said this would be the best way to go so that we ensure going forward that he’ll be okay.”

Maybe he should just go put some ice on it.

Wonder if there’s anyone who might want to help him with that?

  1. He aggrevated his back throwing Prince into the tub.

Tip:: If you have back issues, maybe you shouldn’t be acting like a punk and throwing teammates in cold tubs.

  2. Prince should take a paddle and sneak up on JPP and smack him in the back. JPP took advantage of his size. Prince should take advantage of his injury. Im kidding…but that is why you treat others how you want to be treated.

  3. Does anyone who is criticizing JPP actually know about his life story? There may not be a more humble and deserving player in the entire NFL. the guy’s father is blind so he had to work night shifts at McDonalds after football practice so his family could live a somewhat normal life. Anybody criticizing him should remember not to throw stones when they live in glass houses.
Not to mention he’s well on his way to being the best defensive player in the league.

  4. All you haters….he pulled out his back lifting his giant Super Bowl ring out of the box.

  5. Some will never understand the culture in a football locker room unless you’ve been in one.

Who are you to judge anyone? Have you never done anything that you regretted before?

Football players are not all educated and make bad choices sometimes. Those of us that are educated still make bad choices, when we know better. They are scrutinized because a camera captures what they do.

  6. i just literally LOL’d when i read he should put some ice in it…

and how many commentors are going to come out with the same prince/jpp joke lol it was funny for the first read or two then got really repetitive.

Are you really that naive? That doesn’t mean he’s the same humble kid, though. Success often changes people for the worse. Like you said: he went from struggling to support a family to winning the SB and being one of the best defensive players in the league. You don’t think that inflates a 23 year old’s ego? Get real.

  8. Hard to imagine anyone negotiating the slippery area that must be around an ice tub, while carrying an extra two hundred pounds, without slipping and working himself into an awkward position and twisting or wrenching an area in the lower back. I would think this was the EXACT outcome that first flashed into Coach C.’s mind upon being brought up to speed about the incident. The ironic thing is it really doesn’t matter if the injury is related to the dunking. Everyone will assume and propose that this is how the back was tweaked. The only way to prove how it happened would be if someone had film of the injury occurring and posted it on…..oops, never mind!

I can’t wait to see him get smashed on the football field while the rest of his mediocre football Giants miss the playoffs.

You’ll be waiting a long time for that. You’ll probably have to wait until their next victory parade is over. But look on the bright side…maybe you can pick up a few extra bucks, sweeping up the confetti.
