Panthers’ Steve Smith misses practice with infection in left foot

Steve Smith AP

Panthers receiver Steve Smith missed practice today because he has an infection in his left foot — an issue serious enough that he’s currently on crutches.

But a Panthers official told Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer that the infection is not expected to cause Smith to miss significant time. Smith is receiving antibiotics, and the Panthers will see how well he responds to that treatment before deciding whether he’ll play on Sunday night against the Jets.

Smith has been limited to one practice since the Panthers’ preseason game against the Dolphins on Friday. He hasn’t seen a lot of action in the preseason, catching one pass in each preseason game, one for four yards and one for 15 yards.

Brandon LaFell, who would be the Panthers’ No. 1 receiver in Smith’s absence, called the 33-year-old Smith “Ironman” and said he expects Smith back soon.

Most likely it is former blisters that have ruptured causing an infection. It happens a lot to athletes, especially those with a new pair of cleats. Painful but absolutely curable, z-pack and some rest should do it.

Ask Malcolm Jenkins what happens when someone decides to step to that “punk” Steve Smith. And who’s 4-12?

really its quite funny on how you put him down. chess you realize that was a less mature Smith in 2008. last time I looked at the Calender it said 2012. People change get over it. novoodoo some reason I feel you are a Taints fan. Really calling Smith a punk (seems a lil ironic) btw they were 6-10 last year not 4-12 and could have easily went 9-7 is Mare wasn’t such a sorry kicker. Viking yes he runs his mouth but hell I like a competitor that gets fired up. Sure as hell beats a coach who is afraid his lil RB will get hurt over a lil practice contract.

oh and on one more note How much did each or your teams players donate to the shooting victims in Colorado again?

There goes Cam’s chance of repeating last year’s numbers

Smitty will play with his crutches if neccesary. Beat CBs over the head with them and tell Cam “I was open cuz.”
