While a list of his former teams would make his resume span many pages, Titans defensive tackle Shaun Smith might want to find room for “fortune teller” on his next one.
The Titans released Smith Wednesday morning, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean.
And even though he was talking and weighing less than ever this offseason, he said in June he knew nothing was promised to him.
“Am I worried? I’d be lying if I said I’m not worried,” he said.
He apparently had reason to be.
He signed a three-year, $7.25 million deal last summer, in the midst of the Titans picking four defensive tackles in the past two drafts. But he also got himself in better shape, coming to camp this year in the 330s after playing last year at 362.
Smith was scheduled to make $1.75 million in base salary in 2012, more than they apparently wanted to pay a backup.
Now he gets a chance to add another sticker to the suitcase, after previous stops with the Saints, Bengals (twice), Browns and Chiefs. You don’t get that many former employers without being a headache to at least some of them, but he’s been good enough to keep getting hired, so there’s no reason to think he won’t again.
