Tony Romo lights up Rams in first quarter

Tony Romo AP

The Dallas Cowboys’ offense got off to a slow preseason start, but the St. Louis’ Rams defense appears to have given back Tony Romo & Co. their mojo.

As the first quarter of Saturday night’s exhibition game came to a close, Romo was 9-of-13 passing for a whopping 198 yards and two touchdowns. In one quarter.

Rams rookie cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been burned in coverage and missed several tackles. Cowboys receiver Dwayne Harris has two catches, and they’ve each gone for a touchdown. As the first-quarter whistle blew, Harris had a game-high 99 receiving yards.

Cowboys tailback DeMarco Murray has also looked sharp with five catches for 26 yards and two receptions for 16 more.

The Cowboys smartly pulled Romo after just the first quarter. He looked to be in regular season form.

You know who else looked dandy vs STL? The Colts QB…and well you saw what happened to him when he played real defenses…got exposed, sacked, picked etc. Same will happen to Tony…watch when Orakpo/Kerrigan and Co. crush him…enjoy last place in the NFC East Dallas.

Against the rams, that’s expected of any qb.

Well, yeah, the Cowboys are alwas great when it doesn’t matter….

  4. gcsuk says: Aug 25, 2012 9:05 PM

Don’t get too excited, Cowboys fans… it was the Rams.

  5. abninf says: Aug 25, 2012 9:06 PM

I’m not a Rams fan by any means, but I feel sorry for the players having to wear that redesigned jersey. They look dressed for the disco with those fake collars.

  6. drop703 says: Aug 25, 2012 9:12 PM

It sucks when the “dress rehearsal” game is against a bad team…

  7. mojosmagic says: Aug 25, 2012 9:13 PM

Romo could be the greatest QB of all time. No one is even close. And the Cowboys have ” that talent” assembled by hall of fame GM Jerry Jones they will go 16-0.

  8. trollhammer20 says: Aug 25, 2012 9:17 PM

Rams fans can take consolation in the fact that they are now young and bad instead of old and bad, as they were a few years ago.

  9. calizcowboyz says: Aug 25, 2012 9:17 PM

Our Starters and pro bowlers out of this game –

No Ware, No dez, No miles, No Witten and allegedly
    a sorry oline.

Yep Rams or not, with all these studs out and still
    looking DOMINANT = IMPRESSIVE!

But keep hating, this is a totally different team, roster, and mentality then your Wade Marshmallow

  13. itzmrbev says: Aug 25, 2012 9:37 PM

The fact that hes without his top 3 targets thats impressive. Some of you guys just hate Dallas no matter what they do…

  14. ceschatz says: Aug 25, 2012 9:41 PM

Hahahaha. The haters are out full force tonight. Don’t be all butt hurt just because the cowboys offense is looking good without their stars. Get over it!

What, is he supposed to refuse to play or throw picks on purpose? I didn’t see him shaking his hips salsa dancing or claiming he’s part of a dynasty.

  19. billymc75 says: Aug 25, 2012 9:51 PM

Funny all I’ve heard about the Rams is how much they improved over the offseason. Jeff Fischer, Finnegan, Jackson’s healthy, the maturity of Bradford , drafting Jenkins . But all of a sudden they play Romo and they suck. Make up your mind, Haters gotta hate I guess .

  20. bigballspete says: Aug 25, 2012 9:54 PM

I wonder how many catches DeMarco Murray will get this year? Or even, how many receptions he’ll get?

  21. tommy972 says: Aug 25, 2012 10:01 PM

The Rams may suck but the Cowboys o-line is even worse. Gotta hand it to Tony.

  22. phloorioisanarcissist says: Aug 25, 2012 10:06 PM

“Cowboys tailback DeMarco Murray has also looked sharp with five catches for 26 yards and two receptions for 16 more.”

Wouldn’t that be ‘five rushes’ for 26 yards?

Seriously, you guys are journalists but I continue to see grammar and terminology errors on a regular basis on this sight.

Do they hire you guys straight out of grade school or what?

Wow Andrew luck went 14 of 23 for 151 and TD on the real defense of the skins! Fix your o line before you get RGIII killed like every other qb you have had! Then the skins may come out of the basement of the NFC East!

  24. bluebongzilla says: Aug 25, 2012 10:48 PM

After trying to have his punter hit the video screen, any time the Cowboys can show up a Jeff Fisher-coached team it’s fine by me. Somebody needs to teach those guys how to tackle.

    REALLY…….

Firstly, always is spelled with an y, Einstein.

Secondly, the 5 SB rings the Cowboys have in their legacy, the DOES matter. It’s why you play the game

You are simply either an ultra-hater, and/or must be a Eagles, Vikes, Texan, or some other fan of a team who has never won the SB.

Too predictable, bro. Too predictable. You and the ultra-inept voiceofreasonsays idiot on here would be perfect butt-buddies

I have been a Cowboys fan since I was a kid. Went to PP&K in Dallas at 12. Romo is a loser. Get a franchise QB and get rid of this guy. If he worked as hard on his throws as he does on his golf game, Dallas would be in great shape.

  30. gcsuk says: Aug 25, 2012 11:52 PM

What would Cowboys fans be saying if this was the Giants putting up these stats against the Rams in the pre-season? Probably something along the lines of…

“Relax, Giants fans…it’s just the Rams.”

Don’t get hurt, Cowboys fans, just an NFC East rival poking a little good-natured fun at you, At least your not Eagles fans or Redskins fans. I actually don’t hate the Cowboys.

  31. billymc75 says: Aug 26, 2012 12:00 AM

Murray had 900 yds before the injury, at mod season, freak injury to a fat guy landed on his ankle. After that why question his carries?

  32. bluebongzilla says: Aug 26, 2012 12:00 AM

Last December and January Romo threw 10 TD passes and only 1 interception. In fact since 2009, Romo has thrown 19 TD passes against only 3 interceptions in December and January. I can’t wait to see Romo in December form, either. I don’t want to see the defense in typical December form.

  33. justinaimshigh says: Aug 26, 2012 12:15 AM

Rams played with out several starters as well. Including their best offensive lineman Harvey Dahl, 2nd starting corner Bradley Fletcher and Steven Jackson.

  34. trefkennedy says: Aug 26, 2012 12:30 AM

I’m TeamCowboys but seriously it’s preseason on sep 5th we’ll get those new York dwarfs

  35. eventhorizon04 says: Aug 26, 2012 12:43 AM

See, this is why you have do discount any passing “accomplishments” against the Rams this year.

They’re projected as the #32 or #31 team in the NFL this year.

Credit for the Cowboys doing what they should do – dominate what should be a terrible team.

But just as I wasn’t ready to vote Andrew Luck to the Pro Bowl after his good game against the Rams, I wouldn’t claim the Cowboys’ problems have been fixed after one good game against the Rams.

  36. footballchic777 says: Aug 26, 2012 12:52 AM

And the Cowboys did all of this while the “replacement refs” ….and I use the term extremely loosely and with extreme derision…..were making jacked up calls against them. AND I AM A BENGALS FAN! The lone female made the correct call of a reception for Phillips that was overturned (by a male) as an incomplete pass….wrong! Then Phillips had a lengthy reception over the center where he was interfered with for about 10 yards before he freed himself for a reception….and…oh my, what happened, they called OFFENSIVE PASS INTERFERENCE ON PHILLIPS! I’m sorry, I know alot of your are saying “well, the real refs make mistakes too!”, but these guys are just bad! The “real refs” are not nearly this bad on their worst day! When Kluwe called them and embarrassment, he was RIGHT! The real refs need to suck it up and take the doubled salary that was offered to them, work it out with the NFL, and get these games back on track before bad calls are made that cannot be reversed in games where it counts!

  38. craigmaitland says: Aug 26, 2012 1:26 AM

Too those hating saying “it’s just the rams” that being said Romo was without his top 3 targets. No Austin, Dez or his BFF Witten.

  39. 49erstim says: Aug 26, 2012 1:32 AM

I was there tonight and the ‘Boys looked good and the Rams looked BAD. You put that together and Romo gets pulled after 1 quarter instead of 2 because he’d done more than enough.

Also as a side note…… And i hate to compliment them…but the fans were awesome. I took my 12 year old son and nobody heckled me with profanity or anything due to my 9ers gear. Very respectful group. Well done Cowboys fans!

LOL, I don’t think Ocrackpo has ever sacked Romo .But anyway…

I did not see anything impressive about your savior the 3rd yesterday. Dink and dunk and getting bailed out by a running game while having a terrible deep ball. yea, brag on that 4.4 yards per pass average.

But I guess the skins fans don’t need a lot to be impressed.

  42. igster1 says: Aug 26, 2012 6:19 AM

every year deadskins fans get excited cause they win all four pre-season games. then they finish as the doormat of the nfc east, it will happen again.rgiii will get carted off the field. you heard it here first.

Im gonna have to give you a thumbs down on this one. You and the other 62team people who agree with you are beyond delusional, Romo greatest of all time, C’MON man you have to win playoff games and not choke when everything on the line. 16-0? Not gonna happen, they’re gonna lose their first game against the giants. Romo and Rivers is the most overrated players in the nfl and they haven’t done anything to prove that they are worthy.

  46. 1historian says: Aug 26, 2012 9:21 AM

So the guy gets super hot in the 1st quarter of the 3rd exhibition game against a stinkeroo defense and suddenly he’s ready for the Super Bowl.

    ok

I know we’re supposed to call them preseason games but I’m an old fart and if I want to call them exhibition games – they are exhibition games.
