It’s a good thing the Redskins got some practice playing without right tackle Jammal Brown during the preseason because it looks like they’ll be without him come the start of the regular season as well.
Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that Brown had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right hip last week. Brown is expected to miss four-to-six weeks as a result of the operation and, per Jones, should start the year on the physically-unable-to-perform list. That would take Brown out of the equation for at least the first six Redskins games of the season.
Brown hurt his hip while doing some running just before training camp, but it has been a problem for several years. Brown had surgery to repair a torn labrum in the hip in 2009 and has dealt with recurring issues over the last two seasons. The team hoped a variety of different therapies over the offseason would result in better health, but that’s fallen by the wayside.
Tyler Polumbus has replaced Brown at right tackle in the preseason and presumably will be there when the Redskins kick off the regular season.
