Jonathan Stewart has a sprained ankle

Jonathan Stewart AP

The news is relatively good on Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart, who was carted off the field on Sunday night.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said after the game that X-rays on Stewart’s ankle were negative, and a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Stewart’s injury is just a sprain.

Stewart won’t play in the preseason finale, but he probably wouldn’t have played in the preseason finale even if he were healthy.

There’s no word yet on whether Stewart will be ready to go for the Panthers’ regular-season opener against the Buccaneers on September 9, but as instances of players getting carted off the field during preseason games go, all indications are that this could have been a lot worse.

He hurt himself trying to carry all that money the Panthers gave him.

The Panthers are going to hit reality this season with all these injuries and Newton getting shut down now that NFL defenses know his limited/one dimension ‘talent.’

It’s only a sprain so he should be good to go Week 1.

I love how people think “luckily, just a sprain”.
There are times sprains can be worse than a break.
From what I saw of the play, he won’t be back week 1.

what exactly is Newton’s “limited 1 dimension talent”? That is the dumbest comment I have ever seen on one of these boards. He has a better passing ability than running ability and he is tough.

As for Stewart. I am glad it isn’t his toe or achilles! He has had trouble with both.

they didn’t say what type of sprain. the way it looked it’s a high ankle sprain and that will have an affect on him the rest of the season.
