I appreciate the info on why a team would “waive injured” instead of simply IR a young player. I did not know that the key was the first roster cut-down.

So if I’m getting this correctly, there are two reasons to “waive injured” instead of waiting until the cut-down.

1. Because they wanted to keep another body in Training Camp.

2. Because they wanted someone to take the player’s contract off of their hands.

Now that we’ve reached the cut-down, the only reason to do so is #2 above.
