Brandon Moore has minor procedure, won’t practice this week

The Jets tried to solve one problem on their offensive line by trading Wayne Hunter to the Rams for Jason Smith on Monday, but that didn’t eliminate all of the troubles up front.

Right guard Brandon Moore had a “minor procedure” on Tuesday, according to a team spokesman via Brian Costello of the New York Post. The team didn’t disclose the nature of the procedure, citing league rules that don’t require a detailed injury report until the first week of the regular season, but did say it was not because of an injury Moore picked up against the Panthers on Sunday.

Moore won’t practice this week, although the team expects him to be ready for the Sept. 9 opener against the Bills. Moore had surgery on both hips before last season, something that caused the Jets to limit his practice time both last year and this summer.

If Moore’s return doesn’t follow that schedule, the next man up is Vlad Ducasse. Ducasse hasn’t looked any closer to being ready for a starting job in the preseason than he did when the Jets took a shot on his raw potential in the second round of the 2010 draft. That means the Jets should keep their fingers crossed that Moore’s minor procedure doesn’t turn into a major headache.
