Not to mention this is the best run game that he’s been around since the early days of Edgerin James.

All that I have heard all off season is Manning haters especially since he’s joined the Broncos. Elway is no slouch when it comes to knowing what it takes to make it to the big show and even win two in a row. Elway did a nice job as a owner of the arena football team the Orange Crush and seemed to do pretty damn well last year minus the second round playoff game. With little to no passing attack. Manning is going to be playing with a fire like he has never had before because he knows that greatness is measured in sb wins. Manning makes everyone play much better around him and the Denver D saved the Denver offense on many occations last season. Denver has a solid kicker finally coming into his own and a formittable pass rush. Manning looked a little rusty in the first two preseason games, but looked very nice against the starting D of the 49ers. I can’t say anyone can predict more than playoff teams in the AFC with the stiff comp. But the Denver D with Jack DelRio at the helm should be stellar enough to take the AFC West. I had seen comments up here saying that the Charger or Cheifs will take the west those of you who said that must not watch very much football at all or had your head under a rock last season.

If Peyton Manning is PEYTON MANNING again, (and I’m not convinced he is) then it’s a fair prediction.

I’m a Patriots fan but I always cringed whenever the Peyton Manning of old was lining up behind center against my team…and I expect to be doing more of the same this year. Have a ton of respect for him.

Years ago, I used to offer varying amounts of money (depended on how well I was doing financially) to friends, family, and coworkers who could tell me which two teams would be in the Super Bowl. If more than one person picked the same two, they split the pot accordingly.

It didn’t matter who won, and the picks had to be written down, signed, and be in my possession by the end of the 1st week of training camp. BOTH teams had to be in the SB; there were no half-winners.

They didn’t have to pay a dime, there was no pool, etc. If someone picked correctly, I just paid them whatever cash I was offering up. It was always at least $100, never more than $500. Just a sort of fun game to play.

Thing is, I never had to pay a dime – no one ever got both teams correctly. Too many variables and unknowns. Not to say one couldn’t get lucky and pick both, but a super computer isn’t going to be able to guarantee both teams.

King and everyone does this because it generates readers and reactions, something every publication, be it web-based or otherwise, needs.

Peter King is one of the worst jock-sniffers in sports journalism. His columns are long-winded and full of awful, awkward writing.

But do you know what I hate worse than Peter King? It’s people who act like they are clairvoyant when they correctly pick who won’t win the Super Bowl. You have a 97% chance of being right! Way to go out on a limb! Then, on the 3% chance they are wrong, they’ll do this, “Oh, well the refs clearly screwed up a call in week 7. If that call is right, team X loses the game, they don’t win their division, lose a tie breaker for a wild card and don’t even make the playoffs.”

Green Bay could go 13-3 and lose in OT of the Super Bowl, and Viking fans will be on here saying, “Ha ha! I knew the Packers sucked and wouldn’t win the Super Bowl. I told you in August.” They will simultaneously ignore their own team’s 4-12 season while declaring an NFC Championship season to be a failure of epic proportions while silently weeping that they wish their team could be contenders every year, but they know it’s not possible because their QBs are either guys who can’t convince themselves to retire or guys who were drafted far higher than they should have been.

So a team needs a great defense to go to the super bowl? News flash the patriots had the worse defense in the league last year. I don’t agree with either pick though. Manning could barely lead the Colts to a super bowl and that was with a stacked wr group. I really don’t even think he will make it through the season. The packers are a more logical pick, but the nfc is up for grabs. I don’t even think the packers will win their division, the bears will. If I had to make a choice, I think it will be Houston and the bears, with the bears winning. Afc teams don’t compare to the nfc teams now, so my bet would be whoever gets out of the nfc will win

Remember when Tom Brady came back from a year off and had mostly the same offensive personnel from his record-breaking season on 07? 10-6. Wild-card blowout. Didn’t execute in the clutch in several road games. Peyton Manning is coming back to a whole new team and a downgrade in offensive personnel. He would have to have one of his best seasons for the Broncos to make that kind of run.

I used to love these types of prognostications….when I was 12. I think the best you can hope for is to pick a pool of teams most likely to be in the Super Bowl – for me, I think the AFC team will come from either New England, Houston, or Baltimore. The NFC is a little tougher, but I’ll go with either Green Bay, San Francisco, New Orleans, or the Giants.
