Mike, why are you not giving us the details on this one? During the lockout with the players you provided details not just on the money but the ‘other’ stuff that each side wanted. Why aren’t you giving us the details on how much money the refs want and how quickly versus how much the NFL is offering? Why very limited mention of the retirement plan differences, the desire for a larger pool of officials, etc.? It’s not like you, and it’s not a fair and complete representation of the issue, to just say that the refs want more money and the NFL doesn’t want to give it to them.

You must have missed the last decade in NFL officiating.

“NEWS FLASH” The regular NFLPA refs are just as bad.

At least the replacement officials have an excuse.

This boils down to the worst of two evils. The reg refs have made many mistakes and some effected the outcome of games. The replacement refs have made their share of mistakes. one complaint is the replacements are not use to the speed of the NFL game. But the same is said of the NFL rookies, and by the rookies themselves. But these rookies quickly adjust to the game. Why can’t we expect the same of replacement refs. I would love to see the regular ref back. But I think thet need to prove themselves. Why can’t anything be said about the refs. They are quick to point mistakes made by the replacement refs

Can we please STOP saying the NFL should just offer to pay the ref’s? Florio (or anyone else), please correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t the NFL offered a sizable (100%) increase to the ref’s over the next 5 yrs. Isn’t the big sticking point(s) that the NFL wants to hire extra officials so that they can replace the ref’s who score the lowest. Also, they want to be able to mix and match crews for the playoffs, get the best overall ref’s per game instead of the team the graded the best overall. And lastly, hasn’t the NFL said they want to move to full time ref’s.

I don’t blame the ref’s for not wanting to give into those points, may cost them their 2nd income. But to paint this as the NFL being cheap is the exact opposite of the truth.

In other words, I will sum up what happened today. The NFL has been trying to negotiate a deal, and the Officials dug there heels in and said they werent looking to negotiate. Then the NFL put out a memo that the Replacement Officials would work week one, because the “real” officials wont negotiate… And boom, just like that, the officials had the court of public opinion against them, and now both claim they are ready to talk. Sounds to me like the NFL won this round…

Mike, you criticize the NFL for saying the officials talk to the media more than them, when the NFL talks to the media. Fair point. Why didnt you say who was actually running a public smear campaign while vilma and brees were going to everyone who would listen calling goodell a dictator and talking about how evil and unfair he is?

Then, you say exactly whats happening. Fair point. Why do you leave out pertinent facts in the bounty case to discourage the NFL? Why dont you come out and say what judge berrigan is really doing?

I like the site, but the blatant anti-NFL stuff is getting old. You know its bad when you’re willing to do it to the point of losing credibility as a former lawyer.

I absolutely would like to see the regular officials back for the start of the season. But part of me does agree with the ‘if the officiating is bad, it’s equally bad for everybody’ sentiment.

Fact is, all the complaining about the replacement refs now will change to similar complaining about the regular refs once they come back. Just saying.

Either way, I’m ready for football!!
