Yep, the NFL should have a DL like MLB. It takes the NFL and the NFLPA f-o-r-e-v-e-r to come to their senses. Why just one guy to IR that can return, and why does that return player have to be designated when he goes on IR (healing is hard to predict), and why does he have to take up a roster spot while on IR? The NFL HQ need some fresh thinking and the NFLPA a good colonic so agreement can be reached promptly for the common good of the game.

I don't understand why the NFL teams would want to pay players not to play anyway. Why not make a new 'disabled list' that lasts 6 to 8 weeks that would allow you to keep 3 or 4 players on the DL and then keep injured reserve for the entire year. That way if you went to IR you know you would be done and entire seasons would not be lost for guys who could come back in several weeks. And yes teams would try to take advantage of that too but Roger Goodell would suspend the head coach for two years if they tried!

Don't know but I bet the Saints will find a way to use it to their advantage... Say you pay a opponent lower in the standings to knock out a key player of a team you might face in the playoffs.

Tuck - come sit on daddy's lap and let me tell you how the world works: NFL teams will ALWAYS use ANYTHING they can to their advantage. Why else would they want it?
