Mathias Kiwanuka takes a shot at Jerry Jones

Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka has fired back at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for saying his team would “beat the Giants’ asses.”

Kiwanuka said on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton that he thinks Jones has every reason to be eager to beat the Giants — because Jones’s team hasn’t beaten the Giants very often recently.

“He should. I mean, the Giants have been whupping his ass for a long time,” Kiwanuka said, via Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger.

Kiwanuka said he thinks Jones is having a hard time dealing with seeing the success the Giants have had, and he thinks other teams are jealous of the Giants’ success.

“It’s gotta be tough on the outside looking in on all of these championships lately,” Kiwanuka said. “That’s the feeling I feel like everybody in the league has and everybody should have because we’re here on top and everybody should be wanting to knock you off.”

We’re now less than a week away from the Cowboys getting their opportunity to knock the Giants off.

I’m not a Giants “fan” per se, but I have always liked the way they play the game the way it is meant to be played and by doing their “talking” on the field,in this case, Kiwanuka hit the nail on the head with his response. Every year we hear about the preseason paper champs, Cowboys and Jets but teams like the Giants just take care of business.

  4. frankfordyellowjackets says: Aug 30, 2012 10:37 AM

Doesn’t matter because the Eagles will win the East this season.

  5. thejuddstir says: Aug 30, 2012 10:39 AM

The cowboys could get lucky and beat the Giants in the first game of year but when it comes playoff time, my money would still be on the Giants and not the choke artists.

  6. njgiant1982 says: Aug 30, 2012 10:42 AM

Good luck with that, Frank. Make sure Vick wears his armor.

  7. metalup666 says: Aug 30, 2012 10:45 AM

If Vick stays healthy, I think the Eagles have as good a chance as any to win the division. But, I don’t think he can with the way he plays. It’s gonna be a tough division this year all around.

Oh lord one they really haven’t been whooping Dallas for a long time. Check the all time head to head battle the giants would have to sweep Dallas for the next 20 years just to even it up. Two as far as the giants not talking but showing it on the field lol really stupid that’s all this team does is yap its flap. Though the superbowls are impressive tey don’t do much else when they aren’t winning them they aren’t winning nothing so keep putting the giants on a pedestal and they’ll fail this season

  11. tmac4454 says: Aug 30, 2012 10:57 AM

The entire Defense starting with Pierre Paul and Tuck will take good care of Jenny Jones, Opie Garrett and crew. Can’t wait to see this game.

  14. eldritchblast says: Aug 30, 2012 11:09 AM

PaulSmith107 – it’s hard to make out what you’re actually saying because of your awful grammer, but the Ring is the thing. Period. Ask Marino, ask Payton, ask Elway. You win one your on a pedestal. You win two and you’re in some pretty ELIte company.

And your math is as bad as your grammer. If the Giants sweep for the next ten, not twenty years, and exclude playoff wins, the Giants and Cowboys would be tied.

  15. rungame8732 says: Aug 30, 2012 11:15 AM

I have never been very impressed with the Giants, they get way too much publicity and hype, solely b/c they are based in NY. Same goes for the Jets, I don’t like either NY/NJ team.
IMO they get a lot of calls by the refs due to the NFL itself wanting both teams to succeed, again solely b/c both are in NY.
You know that if Kiwanuka were a black owner and Jerry Jones was a white player, and Jones said what Kiwanuka said, it would be considered to be a racist comment. But since it’s the other way around it’s ok.

Cowboys easily win the East this season. Giants are nothing and have gotten lucky recently.

Cowboys may have one of the best defenses in league history this season. Don’t be surprised when we shut out the Giants Wednesday.

  19. steelersforlife says: Aug 30, 2012 11:22 AM

Hey Kiwanuka, when you or the Giants organization gets to SIX Super Bowl victories, than you can brag. When you say “EVERYBODY in the league” is stretching it.
I agree with you as far as Jerry Jones. He is the entire problem for that organization. Jerry Jones is an EGO maniac that needs to sit in the booth and watch the games and have no say. Give it up if u wanna win Jonesy.

Let me get this right the Giants have won 2 Super Bowls In the past 5 years (lucky) and you worry about the Cowboys? It’s clear the Giants are worried about the Cowboys and are always talking about the Cowboys! One thing Giants will never be is Americas team! The Cowboys haven’t won the Super Bowl since 1995-1996. The Cowboys are still Americas team, number 1 in every catagory (apparel, Fan appeal) and so on. So let’s see what happens this year and see how the Giants do against the Cowboys. If Eli ( AKA Downsy) plays like
He did in the 4th preseason (4 series?) game against the second string Patriots it’s goin to be a long night for Giants. Eagles fans why are you in this discussion at all? The only team in the NFC East that doesn’t have a Super Bowl and you have Mike Vick as QB come on.

  22. bigbluefan1 says: Aug 30, 2012 11:34 AM

Keep hating my G-Men but tune in Wed night to see the banner once again raised in the Meadowlands

Will te G-Men repeat who knows but it is better to have won 2 in 5 years then none in more then 10 years.

Right now Philly looks like the toughest team they have to play in the East but we have Eli and he has proven that as long as he is standing they have a chance.

Can not wait to sit in Metlife and watch the banner once again raised for my world champs

  23. primetimetto says: Aug 30, 2012 11:37 AM

So here’s the stat since people talk all that garbage about the Giants beating Dallas all the time.

    All-time series DAL leads 56–42–2[1]

As noted before Dallas been smacking them for a while! Get your facts right Giant fans! It comes down to Dallas running the NFC East for a while!

FYI here’s Dallas vs Philly record

All-time series Dallas Cowboys lead 56-46

    And the Deadskins

All-time series Dallas Cowboys lead 62-40-2[1]

Last time I checked the Giants have EIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS to the Steelers 6. Only the Packers and Bears have more. It took 40 years for the Steelers to win a title (with one playoff appearance in that time span) so I wouldn’t be mocking the Giants who won their first championship in 1927

  27. jagwar73 says: Aug 30, 2012 11:54 AM

    1. It’s GRAMMAR, not grammer.
    2. If you’re going to capitalize Ring, then you should also capitalize The, as in “The Ring is the thing.”
    3. “Period.” is a sentence fragment.
    4. “You win one your on a pedestal” should be “If you win one, you’re on a pedestal.” There are multiple examples of poor grammAr in this sentence, but most humorous is the fact that you used “you’re” correctly right after it: “You win two and you’re….”

    Who’s the idiot now?

  29. bullcharger says: Aug 30, 2012 12:10 PM

You can’t take away the Giants Super Bowls, so they have the right to talk smack. That said, they haven’t exactly been dominating the league since 2007. They were only 1 game away from missing the playoffs last year and it was similar in 2007. Some of the other years the Giants have just looked awful to the point where Coughlin has been on the hotseat several times. The Giants have as much a chance to miss the playoffs as make them which is the case most years for them. The winner of the NFC East can make noise in the playoffs again though, as they will be battle tested.

  31. trojan33sc says: Aug 30, 2012 12:16 PM

If Jerry wants a championship then he had better find some O-linemen to protect his QB as Romo was running for his life on every down during the preseason games against inferior D-linemen. Can you imagine when they play the Giants , it will look like a jailbreak when the ball is snapped. Just Shut Up Jerry !!!!!!!

  32. earvinmagicjackson says: Aug 30, 2012 12:32 PM

Please stop trying to shoehorn irrelevant references to pre-Super Bowl era “championships” into a discussion about the modern game.

If the era’s champions include such powerhouses as the “Providence Steam Roller”…then its obvious that…well…that I’m wasting my breath.

    …sheesh.

A lot of the “disrespect” for the Giants prob arises from their record last year. Weren’t they 6-6 at one point? and didn’t they lose TWICE to the Skins?

They got hot at the right time, benefited from some tie-breakers, and took it all.

Hey, that still counts in my books, but I can see how some might view that season as lucky.

Teams who win 11 + games AND the SB I think are perceived as more legit in general.

  38. gmen1983 says: Aug 30, 2012 1:15 PM

Am I the only one who read (and understood) the words Kiwi said? Does anyone really think a 6-yr veteran is talking about the entire long and storied history of these two teams when he says,“He should. I mean, the Giants have been whupping his ass for a long time,”? I’m fairly confident he’s talking about the recent history. Going back to 2000, the Giants have a 15-9 record (16-9 if you include that playoff game) against the Cowboys. That’s a pretty good winning percentage. On another note, to say the Giants haven’t exactly been dominant between (or during Super Bowl years) isn’t entirely wrong, but did we forget they started the 2008 season 11-1 before Pla shot himself, then finished 12-4 before losing in their first playoff game. 2009 was 8-8, but 2010 they were 10-6, which is typically good enough to make the playoffs, so it’s not like they’ve had just those two solid years. Obviously I’m a Giant fan, but these are just facts.

  39. justintuckrule says: Aug 30, 2012 1:21 PM

@Dallas fans – behold the most consistent team in the last 30+ years….the defending SB champs. We are most consistent because we’ve won a SB in every decade since the 80s and we have at least until 2029 to continue this amazing run!! Go Blue!

  40. lopes93 says: Aug 30, 2012 1:23 PM

Why are all the cowboy fans and here trying to talk smack? For most of the people on here( including me) the cowboys haven’t done a thing since we watching and actually understood the game of football. If you go back 15 years what have the cowboys done in those 15 years? Not a dam thing…I am a eagles fan so I know I don’t have a lot of room to talk but within the NFC east over the last 15 years the only team that really has room to talk smack is giants fans because their team has had actual success in that time frame

Lets look at this for a sec…

What tiebrakers are needed when you win your division outright? last time i checked, best record won the division, without tiebreakers.

And all of this talk about the Cowboys owning the Giants? Since 96, the Cowboys have been nothing more than average, with a .500 record and 1 playoff win.

  47. thesmartestmanever says: Aug 30, 2012 2:42 PM

two superbowls in four years is by no means lucky. The Giants are a good stout football team with a just above average QB. Dallas may actually have more talent at most skill positions but QB is not one of them. the NFC East will be a hard fought division this year with every team making improvments from 2011. the cowboys however seemed to stand pat with that flying circus they fielded last year, and that’s just fine with me

  48. welllemmeaskyouthis says: Aug 30, 2012 2:43 PM

Seagles are a valid threat this year – once Vick gets hurt it’s that back up QB that actually concerns me more than anyone.
Skins like to think they will do something but soon they’ll realize that RG’s next commercial shoot and his brand will be far more important to him. GMEN beat the refs and the favorites last year – this Big Blue train keeps a rollin’. Deal with it!

The NFL historically classifies the NFL and AFL Championship Games with the NFC and AFC Championship Games. All you need to do to verify that is check the NFL Fact and Record Book.

By that account, the Giants and Steelers are tied with Championships – Steelers 8 AFC Championships, Giants 8 NFL/NFC Championships.

I personally like the Giants – but the NFL Championships that were won in the early days have nothing in common with what they were even in the 1960s – to say nothing of the Super Bowl.
