After losing starting job, Rashad Butler lost for season to injury

Rashad Butler walked into camp as the Texans right tackle.

But after losing that job to Derek Newton, he’s now lost for the season.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Butler suffered a torn right triceps muscle and will be placed on injured reserve. He had the same injury in his left arm last year, costing him 14 games.

“It’s unfortunate, a tough, tough deal,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. “He comes back from the other injury, battles, does a heck of a job and handles himself like a big-time pro [when Newton named the starter]. You hurt for guys that work their tail off.”

The Texans will either use third-year tackle Andrew Gardner or find a veteran on the waiver wire for the swing tackle role.
