Chiefs axe two draft picks on way to 53 players

No big names were sent packing in Kansas City on Friday, but the team did lose the services of three 2012 draft choices.

Two of the players left at management request. Wide receiver Junior Hemingway and defensive lineman Jerome Long, both of whom were seventh-round picks, were waived as the team made its way to the 53-man limit. A third draft pick, fifth-round safety De’Quan Menzie, was placed on injured reserve.

The Chiefs also announced that quarterback Alex Tanney, an undrafted player from Monmouth (Ill.), has been placed on injured reserve. The team also waived defensive end Brandon Bair, cornerback Mikail Baker, wide receiver Josh Bellamy, center Rob Bruggeman, fullback Patrick DiMarco, cornerback Chandler Fenner, guard Darryl Harris, linebacker Gabe Miller, tackle David Mims, wide receiver Jamar Newsome, safety Terrance Parks, center Lucas Patterson, guard Rich Ranglin, cornerback Neiko Thorpe and defensive back Donald Washington.

Linebacker Leon Williams defensive lineman Amon Gordon were released and linebacker Tamba Hali is suspended for the first game of the season.

It kind of shows you how deep the Chiefs roster is when you don’t really know anyone that was released

I guess Scott Pioli can’t draft. He’s no Belicheck.

After Scott Pioli left, Bill Belicheck had full control of personnel decisions.

Afterwads, the Patriots’ top-5 ranked defense steadily worsened in quality, as Pioli-acquired players retired or left in free agency.

Last yaer, the Patriots’ defense was one of the worst units in the NFL last year by several measures. Notably, it allowed QBs like Joe Flacco and Eli Manning to torch them for 300-350 yards in the AFC Championship game and Super Bowl – and those are not two QBs who most people would describe as “top-5.”

But yeah – Belichek’s done a great job drafting without Pioli.

I guess you aren’t as smart as you think you are.

Why is it a big deal when 7th round draft picks and undrafted free agents get cut?
