Eagles final roster begins to take shape

Our final roster tracker already informed you of four Eagles cuts.

On Friday afternoon, the team announced via its website 19 roster moves, including the four previously reported. The player with the biggest name released by Philadelphia is veteran safety O.J. Atogwe.

More Eagles cuts: Wide receivers Chad Hall and Marvin McNutt, safety Phillip Thomas, guard Brandon Washington, guard/center Steve Vallos, tight end Brett Brackett, defensive tackle Landon Cohen, fullback Emil Igwenagu, tackle D.J. Jones, linebacker Adrian Moten, defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu, linebacker Ryan Rau, defensive end Monte Taylor, and defensive tackle Frank Trotter.

The Eagles, for the moment, appear to be keeping six cornerbacks: Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Brandon Boykin, Curtis Marsh, Trevard Lindley, and Brandon Hughes.

They’ve also gone heavy on quarterbacks, keeping four: Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Trent Edwards, and Mike Kafka.

Same goes for running back: LeSean McCoy, Dion Lewis, and rookies Bryce Brown and Chris Polk all remain on the pared-down roster.

Kafka, Polk, and Hughes shouldn’t be feeling too comfortable, though. The Eagles could still part ways with one, two, or all three if they like something they see come across the waiver wire.

The pieces are in place for the Eagles to get swept by the Redskins and miss the playoffs.

I’m betting if they pick anyone up, Kafka “tweaks” something and goes to IR?

  3. catquick says: Aug 31, 2012 2:12 PM

    Trent Edwards?

Just the beginning of waiver wire pick ups and trades for future draft picks. The Eagles will not carry 4 QBs and all those defensive linemen.

I bet they are trying to trade Edwards or Kafka.

One of Trevard Lindley and Brandon Hughes will definitely be cut. Andy Reid and Howie Roseman are probably agonizing between Kafka and Trent Edwards as we speak. They are fools if they choose Kafka.

3 left to go, my guess is McBriar, Kafka, and Dixon. It wouldn’t surprise me if they let Lindley go vice Dixon. I can’t believe they’d go into the season with only 3 safeties (Allen, Coleman, and Jarrett). Any team wanna trade Kafka for a 2nd round pick and a safety?

I’m surprised Kafka is still there….
Clearly Foles and Edwards have proven themselves in the preseason…

voiceofreasonsays the Skins are 8-16 against Andy Reid. I don’t think the Eagles have too much to worry about, kiddo.

McBriar isn’t on this list. While is agent announced he would be cut, it hasn’t actually happened yet, so they still have two punters.

Little weird they only kept 5 receivers. Maybe they will pick someone off the waiver wire.

Wow, what happened to Atogwe? I guess it’s just age.. he sucked for the Skins and now didn’t make cuts for the Iggles.

I like the moves other than keeping Kafka. I’m glad to see Chad Hall go only because he is so short!

IDK about Polk. Honestly, I want them to keep him and Brown and ship off Lewis. Either that or put one of the two as a fullback.

BTW, anyone besides me scared about the safety spot?

The NFC EAST has been owned by the Giants and Eagles for last 12 years. Nothing different this year. As NYG fan I think both teams will be 10-6 or 11-5. Coin flip right now!

Can’t wait until 9/30 at the Linc.

McBriar has already been released. Chas is our man this year again.

It’s about damn time they cut Chad Hall. Why keep Kafka though? That’s a waste of a roster spot for realz playa
