Hurricane could result in delayed start to Loomis suspension

While the latest hurricane to hit New Orleans didn’t pack the same punch as the one that devastated the city seven years ago, the storm has caused enough damage to create logistical problems for the Saints as the first game of the regular season approaches.

As a result, the NFL is willing to delay the start of the suspension imposed on G.M. Mickey Loomis, according to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com.

But the league would only toll the eight-game ban, nudging it from Week Two through Week Nine. Per Marvez, owner Tom Benson asked Commissioner Roger Goodell to waive the first week of the suspension.

The Saints should take the deal. During football season, with the roster largely set and only mild churning of the five-to-10 spots at the bottom, the General Manager has reduced duties. Moreover, a one-week delay allows Loomis to assist interim interim coach Aaron Kromer as he prepares for the first of six games he’ll handle in place of interim coach Joe Vitt, who will be serving a six-game suspension.
