Jaguars cut nine players, including Jordan Palmer

Vito Stellino of the Florida Times Union is on top of cut-down day in Jacksonville. Stellino reports that the Jaguars have waived two players — tight end Colin Cloherty and quarterback Jordan Palmer — and has also tracked down several more roster moves via Jaguars players’ Twitter accounts.

In addition to Palmer and Cloherty, the Jags have cut running back Richard Murphy, offensive tackles Will Robinson and Lee Barbiasz, defensive back Rod Issac, linebacker J.K. Schaffer, cornerback Trumaine McBride, and defensive end Odrick Ray.

Palmer’s release leaves Chad Henne as the only backup to quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The Jaguars may monitor the waiver wire over the next several hours in order to unearth a viable third-string signal caller.

  1. watched a minute of the jags/falcons replay this AM on NFLN. Gabbert comes out for the first series and they put up his preseason stats, which were decent. the announcers brag on his improvement. First play of the game his pitches the ball into the lead-blocking fullback’s back on a sweep…Falcons ball 1st and goal at the 6…same old Gabbert!

  2. Or, more likely, they’ll carry two QBs on the roster and then bring in someone if either Gabbert or Henne get hurt, similar to pulling Bouman off his tractor the last few seasons. Palmer, in fact, is probably pretty likely to be the guy they call in, since he’s had the offseason with the offense.

  3. It wouldn’t shock if Chris Redman is re-united with Mike Mularkey in Jacksonville.

Brian Hoyer could get some interest around the league after being cut by the Pats.
