Lions roster down to 56 players

Jim Schwartz AP

The Detroit Lions made 11 cuts earlier in the day, and they made six more just moments ago.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions have informed guard Rodney Austin, defensive end Everette Brown, safety Reshard Langford, wide receivers Lance Long and Maurice Stovall, and cornerback Justin Miller of their impending release.

The Lions’ roster now stands at 56 players.

It needs to be at 53 in under three hours.

This is twice you are reporting wrong roster counts for the Lions in the last hour. They had 63 players, not 64 on the last update. If they cut 6 they would have 57 now, not 56! But they do have 56 cause they actually cut 7, Andre Fluellen was not listed here.

Just like last year, I was really pulling for Stovall.

Stovall is a head case. He has everything he could possibly need to succeed except the attitude, the focus, the confidence, and the right perspective. He needs a coach to get into his head and manage his subconscious before working on the playbook with the conscious mind. So obvious, but we don’t take the high level approach to solving these types of cases. We just cut these guys.

The Lions are like parents that make fun of autistic kids. They don’t realize how much value and talent they have if you treat them differently than everybody else like they need to be. Their minds don’t work to the same canned approach they use on everybody else. This team needs to do better at getting the most out of EVERYBODY.

Bummer about Lance Long, I heard he had a strong camp but the Lions are just too flush at WR.

How do you know how the Lions handle these guys? Are you sitting in on team meetings? Can you read Schwartz’s mind? Is Stovall your boyfriend or something?

Now that the team is officially down to 53, who is still on the bubble? There are a lot of DBs who have been cut, and we’re definitely thin at that position.

Anyone have any guesses about who might be arriving and who might be leaving?

Well the roster is at 53, and we have 5 corners. I’m hoping they pick up another off the waiver wire and stash kellen Moore on the practice squad. 5 corners is just not enough, those guys drop like flies every season once they start playing four quarters of tackle football every week.
