APThe St. Louis Rams formally announced Friday night that they have cut 21 players.
Perhaps the biggest name of the group is former Jets second-round pick Kellen Clemens, who was supposed to be quarterback Sam Bradford’s primary backup this year. The Rams also released Tom Brandstater and have only undrafted rookie Austin Davis behind Bradford on the current roster.
It’s likely Jeff Fisher will be prowling the waiver wire for a veteran this weekend.
More Rams roster moves, beyond the ones already posted on our tracker: Waived defensive tackle Cornell Banks, center Tim Barnes, defensive end Jamaar Jarrett, linebacker Aaron Brown, tight end Cory Harkey, defensive end Scott Smith, and guard Jose Valdez.
The Rams are keeping six wide receivers, for now: Danny Amendola, Steve Smith, Brandon Gibson, Brian Quick, Chris Givens, and Greg Salas. (Austin Pettis has opened the season on reserve/suspended.)
They also kept six cornerbacks: Janoris Jenkins, Cortland Finnegan, Trumaine Johnson, Bradley Fletcher, Jerome Murphy, and Quinton Pointer.

Noooo we loved kellen Clemens
Hello brian hoyer
Good luck w/ schotty as your OC….already whiffed on clemens (he coached clemens on the jets)
I do feel for rams fans, i like Jax and Bradford but schotty is just horrible.
Bradley fletcher is in the trade block. Watch him get traded for a ol
First Gholoston, now Clemens. Bad day for former high round Jet picks.
That’s good news about Davis being kept..seems that he has more upside and leadership. Change takes action.
Go Rams
A Jeff Fisher/Vince Young reunion? Anyone?
Who is gonna be the first kucklehead to suggest Vince Young?
Knucklehead*
The Rams will pick up QB Sage Rosenfels just released by the Vikings to be Sam Bradford’s backup QB…watch!
hey mr fisher i hear vince young is available….im just sayin
“Glass Jaw” Bradford backed up by an undrafted rookie. Jeff Fisher continues to underwhelm.
There is a bigger picture called contracts and cap formulas you know. Wouldn’t doubt at all if they resign him after week 1 or 2. Less guaranteed money, easier to carry 3 QBs. More flexibility with that spot later on. Geez! This isn’t Pop Warner, it’s a business too. Just cheer for your team and enjoy the season.
