Tori Gurley waived by Packers

The Packers had something other teams wanted last season in wide receiver Tori Gurley.

Those admirers are going to finally get their shot at him. Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Gurley will be waived when the Packers whittle down their roster on Friday. The news is a bit surprising since the team thought enough of Gurley to pay him extra last season to remain on their practice squad instead of jumping to another team’s active roster.

That was then, however, and now Gurley is going to be available to all 31 teams around the league on waivers. With Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Randall Cobb and Donald Driver on the roster, there was only going to be one wide receiver spot up for grabs. And that’s assuming the Packers will keep six wideouts, something they didn’t do last season. Should they decide to do it this time, it will likely be Jarrett Boykin or Diondre Borel who gets the gig.

Demovsky also reports that the Packers will be parting ways with offensive lineman Tommie Draheim, defensive end Lawrence Guy, wide receiver Curenski Gilleylen and cornerback Otis Merrill.

UPDATE: It won’t be Borel. He’s been cut as well, according to ESPNWisconsin.com.
