ReutersThe Panthers made a move Sunday morning to address a thin defensive tackle position, signing veteran Dwan Edwards.
To make room for him on the roster, they waived Terrell McClain, their third-round pick a year ago (65th overall).
Edwards was just cut by Buffalo, but he could end up starting next to Ron Edwards quickly. He’s not a flashy player, but a solid pro, with 45 starts in his career.
The Panthers gave up quickly on McClain, who showed flashes of pass-rush ability, but never on a consistent basis.

Wow..waive a 3rd rounder after 1 year.
When did the Panthers hire Jerry Angelo? I thought he was the only one who wasted draft picks like this?
Dwan and Ron…kind of sounds like an 80′s radio show.
Good! I bashed this pick when we made it. He was terrible!!!!
Not a good move. I thought he was better than Fua and Neblett.
This is kinda shocking but I’m okay with this. Andre Neblett was our best DT last year anyways so this unit sould be solid again when he comes back from suspension.
A 3rd rounder after 1 year, wow. Guess whoever is doing the picks down there is clueless.
15 tackles and 1 sack in a season on a poor defense will put you on the chopping block
I’m actually kinda proud of them. You’re gonna miss on some picks. In the past, we’ve held on to them forever. This is a welcome change.
They’re still holding on to Armanti, dionoil, when clearly he isn’t cut out for it. Didn’t they trade up to get him in the 2nd? Time to cut bait on that too.
Armanti only made the roster because Gettis is on the PUP. As for McClain he didnt look good at all last season and from all accounts sucked it up in camp also
Ron Edwards played for the Bills too, at one point. One of my coworkers really believes in Dwan; I, myself, am not so sure. Looks like they like the Buffalo scrap heat though, which is not good because our defense has sucked since 2005.
The guy making the stupid picks is named Marty Hurney. I unlike others do not give Hurney for being “bold” in drafting Cam Newton or Luke Kuechly. Those were no brainers.
I think this is a great move by the Panthers. D. Edwards is not a nose tackle, he just didn’t fit in with the Bills defense. The Bills are a 3-4 defense. He is perfect for the Panthers 4-3 scheme. He should start until Neblett returns. With the Edwards boys, Fua, and Neblett the Panthers tackles are vastly improved. The reason Armanti is still on the team is because Ajirotutu was terrible, it was a choice between the two and Armanti was better. They also have a backup punt returner. Marty Hurney has made some terrible bone head moves in the past, but not this year. He has done a good job with bringing in good players. What they need to do now is hire a new special teams coach.
“D. Edwards is not a nose tackle, he just didn’t fit in with the Bills defense. The Bills are a 3-4 defense.”
With Mario Williams and Mark Anderson at DE, and Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus at DT, where did you come up with Buffalo is 3-4 team? Former Defensive Coordinator George Edwards had a base 3-4 that often transitioned into 4-3 looks last year, and it’s the 3-4 that got him fired. Dave Wannstedt is using a 4-3 D in 2012. Dwan Edwards was never used as a DT in Buffalo’s D-schemes. He rotated at DE with Spencer Johnson and Alex Carrington.
