Rams dump Ojinnaka and Hoomanawanui

The guy who makes the name plates for the Rams jerseys is very happy tonight.

Gone from the roster are guard Quinn Ojinnaka and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui.

They were bumped off the 53-man roster for tackle Ty Nsekhe (maybe the guy who makes the name plates for the Rams jerseys should leave the cork in the champagne) and guard Shelley Smith.  Nsekhe was claimed off waivers from the Colts, and Smith had been waived by the Texans.

Hoomanawanui, a fifth-round pick of the Rams in 2010, was listed as the third-string tight end.  Ojinnaka, according to the most recent depth chart on the team’s website, was the starting left guard.

And so the 32-team 53-man roster churn will continue — especially if Browns coach Pat Shurmur decides to bring Hoomanawanui to Cleveland, given that Shurmur was the offensive coordinator in St. Louis when Hoomanawanui scored three touchdowns in eight games.

Some of these cuts make no sense whatsoever.

Illinois Mike has a ton of talent but just can’t stay healthy. Best of luck to him

They just cut them because Fisher couldn’t pronounce their names.

Hoomanawanui does not have a ton of talent.

Rams fans had some bizarre affinity for the guy. I don’t know why, he looked like a tackle eligible running with the football.

Care to elaborate on your claim?

Illinois Mike has never been healthy to show that he is any good. He has shown the ability to make a couple catches and in Rams country that counts as potential. I wish him the best.

Ojinnaka just didnt play that good in pre-season and got sent packing.

Moose Ojinnaka was never a solid player. Last regime even cut him. I do wish him the best though. Good guy. He worked hard to stay connected to Rams fans via twitter. Guess he shoulda spent more time on his work.

Mike is a bit harder to take. Another fan favorite who worked his tail off this offseason to counter his bad health with superior play. Just the business of the game.
