In a positive sign that he could play in Sunday’s regular-season opener, Browns running back Trent Richardson has returned to practice today.

Richardson, who hasn’t practiced at all since arthroscopic knee surgery on August 9, is on the Browns’ practice field this morning. It’s not yet known to what extent the Browns will limit Richardson’s practice activities.

The Browns’ coaching staff and front office have expressed optimism about Richardson’s availability for the opener against the Eagles, but there has been some doubt about whether he could miss more than three weeks of practice and still play in the opener.

The fact that he’s back at practice today doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be ready to play against the Eagles in six days, but it’s very good news in Cleveland.
