APThe Patriots evicted Matt Tennant before he could even unpack his boxes, cutting the center whom they claimed off waivers earlier this week.
To replace him on the roster, they brought in running back Lex Hilliard, according to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe.
Hilliard was just released by the Vikings, but has the kind of versatile background that appeals to the Patriots. He can play some fullback, a position the Patriots lacked at the moment. But he’s not a true lead blocker. It also knocks them back to eight offensive lineman, a tricky number to pull off, which means more changes could be coming.

They can always convert him.
go lex!
they will cut lex by this saturday
ridiculous. what’s the point of having the 53 man deadline with all these moves happening between it and the first game?
the Pats released Kettani from the practice squad earlier today. not sure if Tennant or Kafka have practice squad eligibility, if so, that door might open for one of them
I’m confused. The Pats signed a guy that doesn’t play tight end.
Watch how from new england gona make him way better than he was in miami cause sparano never gave him a chance then agin belichick can cut him just like dat.
The Brian Waters watch is on.
We’ll see how they fare once the real season begins. Look at how they did last year with one of the worst defenses. They may not reach the Super Bowl but Brady’s record won-loss and division titles is ridiculous with BB. Barring injury to Brady… they will likely win 12-14… and if the defense improves they just might go all the way. We’ve been spoiled during the Brady era, after suffering for decades. If Brady had Eli’s defense not to mention his receivers and running backs, last year would have likely ended on a good note.
Another Dolphin who will thrive under BB.
reltively objective comment from a fan… even Joe Montana only won the SB with top 5 defenses… Jerry Rice and a great all purpose back. You two with the thumbs down must be sitting on your own thumbs.
they better have something in the works with Waters or another lineman. Volmer’s back is a constant risk…..you need depth.
